PLAYING ON THE SHOULDER / FINISHING

I recently had a conversation with an ex pro in a pub of course,!!!! this pro played hundreds of games as a defender , I had played against this player many times as a  club /district /league rep player . My question to him was "what does a defender not like" ?  meaning the positional area  of an attacker the answer was as I expected " playing on the shoulder , very hard to track a players movement especially when the ball is on one side of the defender and the player is on the other side, it gets another mention here !

FA YOUTH AWARD A MUST FOR COACHING 5-11 AGE GROUP

FA 'Boot Room' Editor Peter Glynn On Making Your Practice More Effective

Watch this video on thecoachingmanual.com

Introduction

Peter Glynn is the editor of The FA journal 'The Boot Room' and Editorial Manager at St George's Park. He took a little time out of his hectic schedule to talk to The Coaching Manual Editor Pavl Williams about the FA Youth Award (and how the principles can be applied to your own coaching sessions).

PW : Can you tell me a little bit about the F.A. Youth Award qualifications: Why have they been introduced?
PG : For the longer term development of players at all levels in this country it is crucial that we develop coaches that are skilled, knowledgeable and effective at working with children between the ages of 5-11. If coaches can put in place the ‘right’ things with the younger player we hope they will grow into the players of the future.
In these ‘formative’ years between the ages of 5-11, coaches have a window of opportunity to lay down a solid foundation of FUNdamental movements, skill acquisition and game understanding that can be built upon as the player grows and matures. Through the FA Youth Award Module One we want to help produce skilled coaches who understand how players learn best and who understand how to develop players that are technically efficient and good problem solvers – two key attributes in the modern and future game.
Furthermore we want to develop a coaches understanding of how to can create a supportive, secure and creative learning environment in which they can plant the seeds of a life long love affair with the game for the children they work with.
PW : How does the structure of the new qualifications differ from the traditional Level 1,2 and 3 coaching badges?
PG : The Module 1 award, introduces formative assessment (Assessment for learning) in the way of a practical session at the end of the course. In this format, it is much less of a pass or fail scenario. Instead the coach and the tutor reflect on the session following delivery and outline action points and areas of improvement in order to develop and improve the session.
PW : But there's no high-pressure pass/fail assessment?
PG : No!
PW : The emphasis of Module 1 is very much on 'Coaching The Individual'. Why is this so important?
PG : The tag line of the Module One course is that ‘Before you can teach John football, you need to know John’. Developing an understanding of the various and complex ways children learn, highlights the ineffectiveness of a ‘one size fits all’ approach to coaching players. Through work shops on ‘How players learn’, ‘Managing Mistakes’, ‘Self Esteem’, and ‘Motivation’, we aim to help coaches understand the individuals they work with better and give them some practical examples of how to develop the individuals understanding and enjoyment of the game.
PW : How might a coach use this approach in a real coaching situation?
PG : All the theories and concepts introduced in the workshop elements of the course intertwine with the practical demonstrations on the pitch. In this way the candidates get to see real examples of how the coach can begin to cater for individual needs. For example following the Motivation workshop, candidates get to experience the effect of adding ‘points systems’, ‘team talks’, ‘time limits’ and ‘individual challenges’ into their practices to observe the effect on players motivation.
PW : For me the striking feature of all the exercises in the Youth Award was that they are 'games' first and technical practice second. For coaches looking to develop their own games and session ideas, what are the key features of a 'good' practice for 5-11 year olds?
PG : Personally I feel the key features of an effective practice for 5-11 year olds are;
1) Ensure the practice is realistic to a game situation; for example do the players get an opportunity to pass, receive, dribble, tackle, shoot, make saves and make decisions like they do in a game. The children love to play in games, try and create practices which closely mimic aspects of the game, allow the children to make decisions like they do in the ‘real game’ and tailor your outcome accordingly.
2) Set appropriate challenges that motivate the whole group. For the motivation of all the players within the group, set individual goals to ensure the practice is inclusive and a challenge for all. Give opportunities for the children to solve problems.
3) Let the children think, experiment, be creative and make some of the decisions. They have more ideas than we give them credit for!
4) Inform the children you are working with of their potential. Help them feel good about themselves through building self esteem and confidence. Catch them doing something well and highlight it. Praise effort and team work as much as individual skill.
PW : What is the FA Tesco Skills programme?
PG : The FA Tesco Skills Programme is an initiative which aims to raise technical standards amongst 5-11 year olds. The three-year programme co-ordinated by The FA and funded by Tesco and the National Sports Foundation, aims to give one million children in England top-quality skills coaching by summer 2010.Throughout England, a total of 90, full time Skills coaches will focus on age appropriate football coaching and physical literacy, amongst the 5-11 age group. The FA Skills Programme works with 5-11 children in FA Tesco Skills Centres, Schools and Charter Standard Clubs.
PW : A lot of Club Coaches might be hesitant to send their junior players to a different coach. Won't it be counter-productive for players to have one set of goals at a club session and another set of goals at a Skills session?
PG : In a child’s formative years, I personally feel it is important that the young player is immersed in a variety of positive learning environments in order to help their holistic development. Learning from different coaches, interacting with other children and experiencing new environments will aid this. This is true for experiencing different sports and other learning activities.
If any coaches have comments or further questions stemming from this interview please leave a comment below and I will pass them on to Peter and get a reply for you.

WHY SMALL SIDED GAMES

Got told about this site on a youth module course and just discovered it again via twitter,i favour whole part whole as a training preference , start with a game 4 vs 4 (two goal/end zone /back to back goal game etc etc etc . Followed by a technical practice step overs /cuts /ball manipulation /ball control /head tennis / any thing I can find usually Coerver related .Back to another couple of small sided games focus on session topic .Others Leyton Orient academy included  start with ball manipulation at the start then SSG,S. Here's why (above ) SSGS..... IMO and a lot of others use them. My pet hate is ques of players or players standing on cones, great little video below on DIDIER !!

Manchester United study - compared 4v4 to 8v8 for under 9s: The 4v4 game increased the number of passes by 135%, the number of scoring attempts by 260%, the number of 1v1 encounters by 225%, the number of dribbling skills by 280%.
Minneapolis study - compared 4v4 to 11v11 for 10 and 11 year olds: On average, each player touched the ball over 12 times more often in the 4v4 game

FOREWARD FROM A NEW BATCH OF SMALL SIDED GAMES IVE JUST BOUGHT ....LOVE THIS

PREACHING TO THE CONVERTED

There is an ongoing debate on how best to coach the next generation of football players. This manual puts

forward the case for the use of small-sided games.

In recent years, the use of the small-sided games coaching methodology has rapidly increased in popularity

across Europe and North America. However, this approach is certainly not a new one.

It’s widely held that the practice was first adopted as a structured coaching method by the Dutch Football

Association back in the 1970s under the guidance of Rinus Michels, the inspiration behind what became

known as Total Football.

The Dutch recognised the decline in street football and the damaging effect that would have on developing

players in future generations. They formulated the 4v4 method as a response and it became widely known as

“the Dutch way”.

However, in a chat with Tony Carr, Director of the West Ham United Academy (and editor of Soccer

Coach Smart Sessions), he described how when he was a player at West Ham in the 1960s the great Ron

Greenwood used small-sided games at the heart of his coaching philosophy. Greenwood produced players of

the calibre of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. Tony is responsible for some of the best players

in the modern English game - Cole, Ferdinand, Carrick, DeFoe, Lampard, Terry etc.

What are the key benefits of small-sided games?

SIMPLIFIES  THE CHOICES IN POCESSION PASS, DRIBBLE, SHOOT .

NO COACHING THE GAME IS THE TEACHER
SIMPLE TO SET UP
MORE PLAYER PARTICIPATION
DIFFERENT GAMES GIVE DIFFERENT PROBLEMS TO SOLVE
MORE TOUCHES OF THE BALL
MORE PASSES
MORE 1 VS 1
MORE GOALS SCORED
WHEN USED MORE GK PARTICIPATION
NO POSITIONS JUST PLAYERS
MORE PLAYER RESPONCIBILITY

For this manual I have designed 64 different small-sided games. The games are tried and tested with both

grassroots beginners and top youth players in professional academies. The games are designed to stimulate

the players and lead them down a path of learning. This manual brings the 4v4 concept into the new era and

will develop your players in a fun, player-led environment.

I really hope that you and your players enjoy these games.

With best wishes to you and your team

PHASE 1 REVIEW. FUTSAL, COACH EDUCATION , CLUB MOVE !! THINK THATS EVERYTING !

Most know but for those who don't ,most leagues operate  2 phases to enable promotion relegation , phase one goes from September to December phase 2 January to April .That allows teams who are struggling to be put down a league whilst teams that's results have been favourable to put up a league ! or that's the plan.
Why I hear you ask did two teams that we beat last year get promoted and not us then whilst we only lost one game , the simple answer is !I don't know "!!
Saying that I don't really see a massive amount of difference in the two leagues and think three or four of the teams we have played this year can do well in the division above cant remember the name of it but in old money it is Div 4 of 7 .!. For me it would be a major boost for the kids /parents and me to see progress in a kind of cosmetic sense I think in real terms progress is clear to see .I'm a great believer in coach education and "growth  mind-set" my CPD hours last year was 75 hours I only need 3 hours to retain my level 1 certificate there  was also 16 hours in there on the  Coerver youth diploma  http://www.coerver.co.uk/youthdiploma     that for some reason the FA don't recognise although Real Madrid , AC Milan , Arsenal ,the Japan football federation , Newcastle United do ! the mind boggles .One of the best ways to increase coaching knowledge is  youtube the drills, sessions on there are endless , whilst following the right coaches on twitter who post up session after session is a must .Most of the drills I use are from pro academy's and I have been lucky enough (the harder I work he luckier I get !!!) to have been invited to shadow an u/9 pro  academy coach this Thursday 5/12/14 , I just do what it says on the tin watch he or she  work see what they  do with the  players how they  talk to them what technical info they  give how much  etc etc . Again everyone wins the pro club educates a coach the coach educates the players the players get better enabling the pro club have a bigger pool of players to pick from , really isn't rocket science !.Hopefully this will continue after xmas for a few more sessions maybe a  a month but I working on that bit !My FA  level 2 coaching badge starts on 6th Feb the level 2 so im told its main focus is 18 year olds  plus, but my main reason for doing it is I can the go on to  finish my youth award 3 then  my advanced youth award UEFA B is my holy grail maybe in a couple of years but who knows I may even go further .
Futsal has been a massive success for us, bearing in mind I only started it as a BHFC BLACK training session we now have up to 30 kids attending over  2 nights Trevor will be doing Fridays with Jake and after xmas Mondays will be me and Jake once we have enough money in the futsal fund I will be looking to buy the samba Futsal goals which will enable us to host our own mini tournaments and friendlies . Adding to that LOASS who come in after us also have up to 30 kids attending there sessions be interesting to see whether  our area will start to produce better technical players over time as a result of Futsal . So its been a progressive year I think the club move was most definitely the way forward we couldn't have been made more welcome by Buckhurst Hill Fc from top to bottom the playing surfaces are superb great facilities and for me inviting us to there end of season presentation when we was banned !  from our last clubs was a real nice gesture .
So we await to see if the open top bus is required ! but I feel  the league will be stronger even if we stay put , but here's hoping .The wife is working hard on our match report books for those new this year they are a binder of reports from matches over phase one , action shots from games with a few things we have added this year , we did it last year and a few asked if we could do it again so hopefully they will be done before xmas if my wife working for 5 demanding  lawyers allows, the big Russian property tycoon will have  to wait eh!

A PERSONAL STORY THIS IS THE IRONMAN

Ironed out to Ironman

If people had never read my AS blog I probably would not have written another one but with 5000 hits,  my rheumatologist having the link on his website and a few people asking for me to send it to them for inspiration for loved ones who have been diagnosed with related conditions and AS here I go again!
living with AS  http://nass.co.uk/living-with-as

My first blog for those who have not read it is below

http://7blake.blogspot.com/2013/12/ankylosing-spondylitis-my-story.html

After finishing the Vitruvian (half ironman) in August 2013 I knew there was still fuel in the tank and the desire was still burning to become an Ironman. My spine was fine due to being suppressed by the clinical trial drug but my wrists have been my main concern.  I have been on steroids off and on and methotreyate but they still cause me considerable pain especially after long bike rides due to my gripping the handle bars.  I decided that there must be a way to counteract some of this pain and fitted aero bars which has helped considerably.  These are used by triathletes and help take the stress off my wrists.

I entered Ironman Zurich in December 2013.  The training I estimated after taking into consideration looking after 3 kids, working nights, coaching my twin boys under 8s football team (which I absolutely love) 10-15 hours a week should just get me to the finish line. It was hard and very tiring but I loved it.  I train most days anyway and my weekly 10km run increased to 16km and bike rides ranged from 30-50km (even treated myself to bike shoes!).  I had, believe it or not, completed an half ironman in running trainers!  Lots of online research and motivation from YouTube   http://youtu.be/dF7k1Dw2A7w     I must have watched 100 times.  I was going to join a triathlon club but football training and matches to organise for the U8s team at weekends this was very difficult.  I had come this far training alone could I go the whole way on my own?

My wife and I travelled to Zurich 3 days before I was due to compete in the Ironman and the hotel which we were staying in was full of people racing on the Sunday.  I became friends with Greg & Simon both had done the long distance but not the Ironman brand.  Great fellas and we spent the three days back and forth to the event village.  I could tell that they were as nervous as me and this Ironman business meant a great deal to them and everyone taking part.  Years of preparation, training to build up an endurance level to complete the 140.6 miles in total.

Race Day

It was an early 4am start for breakfast.  You could see fear and excitement of the unknown in everyone’s eyes as they queued for breakfast.  2,600 people had entered and for the first time it was a 3 wave swim start with the elite starting first.  I had already planned to be at the back of the 2nd wave.  Why? Here is why:

That experience had prepared me for what was to come.  There wasn’t any room to swing a cat out there on the lake and it was very choppy.  I found a good rhythm but space in the water was minimal.  I was feeling very relaxed.  The swim took me 1hour 31 mins, which was 6 minutes better than my last 2 times of 3.8km.  The cut off time for the swim section was 2hours 20 mins.  I knew I was always going to make that cut off.

Bike

This is my Achilles heal.  I can’t seem to generate power and my average is around 14mph.  A quick calculation meant that the 10 hour swim/bike cut-off was going to be tight.  I passed a woman on a slight incline and I felt for her as her bike [        ].  It looked like all the years of training was over for the lady.  That’s the small margin we work towards a mechanical breakdown and there goes your race.

Just after I passed her I felt my front type pop.  With my slow bike time this looked it could be curtains for me too.  A marshal called the “bike doctor” but I had already started replacing the tube.  It was the first time ever in 2 years of riding my Scott speedster that this had ever happened.  30 minutes later I was up and running and back on the bike.  The 10 hour cut-off time was going to be really tight.  The Beast (a hill with a 4km climb) was everything they said it was going to be and Heartbreak (1km climb) wasn’t much better!  I was approached by a marshal informing me that they didn’t think I would make the cut-off time and to stop and accept a lift back.  I told him that I hadn’t travelled all this way to sit in the back of the van [OR WORDS TO THAT AFFECT!!!].  I think he got the message !  I am glad that I did as I completed the bike section with 15 mins to spare.

Marathon

I had 6 hours in which to complete the marathon something that I had never done.  The longest distant I had ran in training was 18 miles and have taken part in three half marathons but I felt strong as an ox.  This meant a lot to me to finish an ironman. With my condition it is not an everyday occurrence plus I had bought my three children Ironman t-shirts and there was no way I would let them wear them if I hadn’t finished the race so off I ran.  I actually overtook people which is a first.  Fuelled by the desire, passion, emotion I felt sick. This was due to the vast amount of sickly sugary energy drinks which I had  taken in  to replenish fuel.

I knew I was on course for a finish and the final turn meant 3km to go.  I started to run/walk as I had been for the last 13ish miles.  I wasn’t bothered on the finished time I just wanted to finish.  The cut-off to finish was under 16 hours and I crossed the line completing the Ironman in 15 hours 55 mins and 45 seconds.  I had become an Ironman! My wife was in floods of tears only she knows my struggle with my AS, the mornings when I cannot even open the milk, my moods when I can’t train due to the fatigue associated with this condition.  She has stood by my side throughout and went back to work full time so I could go part-time as a London Cab Driver and look after the kids.  I do not know where my condition will take me but I will always be an IRONMAN!  Pictures below of the clinical trials team, Tommy my sports masseur and Ian Cowell my physio.

The boss, Professor Hassan Tahir, who has been the man responsible for my being able to physically complete my “nutty” races as he called it.

What next?..... Marble Arch to Arch de Triumph cycle is a must, a quadrathalon (swim-kayak-bike-run), join RE Active race team if they will have me! A definite for next year condition allowing.

Of course there is always another Ironman - I would never rule it out (I DON’T THINK SO ITS TOO STRESSFUL said my wife!)

TOBI PUTS US 3-2 UP ONLY FOR BFC TO EQUALISE WITH THERE OWN PENALTY

http://youtu.be/lKdPo6KNzFc

BATTLE OF THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE !!

Another battling display from BHFC black against a tough Rudi Perez team in challenging conditions for 9 year olds .We  went 1-0 down early on but T.Blake equalized after 20 mins from a great pass from Nathan W. A  little lapse in concentration saw us go 2-1 down , but we battled hard and seem to be taking our defensive responsibility,s more seriously of late . We rotated quite a lot during the game but tried to keep the defense tight but because of the atrocious conditions  we were dropping like flies with Faith & Joe asking to come off. A penalty to us late in the 2 nd half I thought had gave us that illusive win against BFC but a late penalty for them again made the two teams hard to separate . May have to have a re think with weather at the minute as I had planned three friendly over the next 3 weeks but may have to move them indoors to a Futsal court. I try to be as fair to everyone as I can but on looking through my stats on goals player % on pitch & man of matchs over the season I had realized the only player who hadn't recieved one in a league game this season was my son !!! Tobi. May be the right time after today s Hatrick following on from a hatrick last week to give him the gong this week think he deserves it well done Tobi B  I am awaiting to see if we need to book the open top bus !!!

A week in Futsal

Our first week playing Futsal friendly's went really well and the kids are hooked, most have now received there Futsal Club Roding kit we have a few pairs of shorts missing but they should arrive next week, we currently have 20 that have purchased the kit. We played against Horndon Yfc on Monday had to endure the  A127 but a great little work out for us we had 9 players  attend and we played up a year against there u/10s and thought we faired really well playing some nice football whoops FUTSAL !! Horndon were great hosts and a pleasure to meet and we will definitely be arranging other games with them. Saturday we visited the score centre in Leyton perfect for me as a Leyton Orient season ticket holder training was cancelled on the Saturday and we took 2 teams to play a mixture of u/8s and u/9 u/10s. Again the kids loved it and it was great to them all in there FC RODING kits . Carlos who runs CM  FUTSAL was another great host and made us really welcome and with me regularly attending Orient games and the score centre being just across the road from the ground pitches always available on a Saturday lunch time we will be making this a regular fixture. With the weather not looking to good at the minute muddy pitches games and training being cancelled im sure we will be playing a lot more Futsal over the coming months makes perfect sense. Our Friday nights are now up and running 12 attended last week and we are looking to put another team together for those who attend regular training playing in house games and friendlies .I'm in the process of arranging a game against LOASS through our kit man Richard at the football and cricket store in Woodford . So has been a really good week for us the kids loved it parents have been supportive and I've met some really nice people and progressive coaches, Carlos who is also a Leyton Orient academy coach who has played Futsal at a high level has also offered to come down to our Monday session to pass on his knowledge so the kids will learn as will me Trevor & Jake the more we learn the more we can pass on so as delboy said EVERYONES A WINNER  I would also like to thank Dave Durham who stepped in at late notice to cover Trevor who was at the Futsal conference at St Georges park always a pleasure Dave not a bad fella either !!! First home league win of the season for the mighty OS as well  so all in all a fantastic day   enjoy your Sunday .

Earl specialisation again !

My dad when my  my twin boys  had reached 3  said to me " I cant wait until they start playing football" my reply was who says they're going to want to play football!?.. Research has told us that only in Gymnastics does early specialisation work. I brought up at a coaching CPD, recently when the subject came up about our  better players were also our better goalkeepers .Is it just coincidence that 5 of our players are also good at  cross country and have just been picked for the touch rugby team ? As a father of twin boys and an 11 year old girl  I want them to sample different sports I took up triathlon at 42 and sampled an Israeli martial art called Krav Maga at 45 for one & half years and has enriched  my knowledge of other training methods. Let nature take its course !

Crossbar touchline communicate different sport same principle

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-2493665/Sir-Clive-Woodward-England-v-Argentina-preview.html

I contacted Dr Sherylle Calder — who has a PhD in sports science and specialises in improving hand-eye coordination and developing peripheral vision — and she showed that everyone was watching the ball instead of the space.
We created a system which we called ‘CTC’ — which stands for crossbar, touchline, communicate — and the idea was to get every player thinking about space and scanning. To scan or play with your heads up you look at the crossbar first, then either touchline and then communicate to the player next to you. It is a way to coach the players to find space.

Probably my whole philosophy in one article

“[Futsal] is played in all Brazilian football academies, and is part of what distinguishes coaching in the country, where the biggest fear is over-coaching its next generation of boys and girls, not under-coaching them. Coaches are discouraged from giving players formal positions until they are 14. Talent is allowed to breathe, to find its natural path in games such as futsal. From the age of seven to 12, young players tackle futsal three days a week.”

BHFC SUFFER 2ND HALF "BLACK"OUT!

Definitely a game of two half's against a very drilled Danny Steed side who are always a pleasure to play (just wish I could get a result)!!!. We started brightly enough playing some nice football and our pass &  move which has become a great feature in our game largely down to playing  Futsal  for the last 3 months so lots of positives to take from the trip up the A10!. We went one up  through a nice passage of play  only for the home team to equalise and then go into the break 2-1 up. If Carlsberg did 2nd half's then  this was one to forget we seem to fall like a pack of cards and it was the same last week  but I always like to see the positives then revert back to the negatives. Ability isn't the issue so a lot easier for me to fix  we are all comfortable on the ball its all down to tracking back to defend and following the ball not the man ,HERES A SOLUTION

which I've said before I've seen players in the premiership do earning 60.000 a week . So back to the drawing board in training we will get this right , also hoping to get other coaches in every so often im not proud I just want to get it right and sometimes another voice or a different approach is needed to go forward. We also have to realise that the team we played today are in the 2nd tier of ten leagues and wont play too many teams of there ilk in our league or the league above  so there was no disgrace to lose to them I just think we contributed to our own downfall. No time to lick our wounds Parkview up next and an important league game  so #letshavit!!!

AN EMAIL FROM AN OPPOSITION MANAGER

BHFC U/9 BLACK 3-4#######

OPPOSITION VIEW

Always nice to link up with BHFC Blacks and coach Blake whos dedication to the development of his players is plain to see.  A game of 3 periods it certainly was, with the first 17 minutes clearly seeing us struggle to get hold of the ball and out our own half.  BHFC played some lovely football in that first period, moving the ball around effortlessly with vision, and the ball landing at feet which was very impressive to watch indeed.  A great advert for futsal if ever there was one !.  I felt we were much improved in the second period which was evident by the fact we started to move the ball around a little better and make some inroads in the oppositions half.  Two teams who compete very well for the ball made for a great game to watch and when we got our first goal felt it gave us some confidence to go on and improve further.  With it being a development game its an ideal opportunity to try out new things and encouragefor one for the better word players to rotate around.  I emphasis the word encourage as with my bunch they don't take too well to be moved outside of what they deem to be their preferred position, and will naturally gravitate to where they feel most comfortable playing.  I felt the game was pretty even at this point with us being a little more opportune in exploiting some of the space in the middle of the park.  I have to say the finishing today was fantastic with some very nicely worked goals by both teams, especially those free kicks !.  Coach Blake obviously doing a good job with BHFC Blacks as they look a very well balanced side with very capable players all over the pitch.  Special mention goes to number 12, Faith, who oozes in abundance everything that is deemed special about a player at this age.  She plays with superb spatial awareness, and a desire and competitive edge which you can actually see on her face as she goes in for a challenge, which doesn't stop with her winning the ball as she then looks to use it in the most effective way.

Good luck for the rest of the season and look forward to seeing you soon

GERMAN ON FIRE !

BHFC 2-1 ########

A dull wet Sunday morning was brightened up by a superb end to end game in a super competitive Norfolk Division match.  Ricky F and Mitchell P had their second spell in phase 1 as a defensive pairing and held firm throughout.  With Mitchell getting more vocal by the game, strong as an ox and his pass completion was second to none.  The Fig, another one of our physically stronger players, was also bang on the money.  With Faith sitting in the pivotal diamond position it allows our defensive two to go forward with the ball.  The away team found the net on 10 minutes but Black scored an equaliser from a corner beautifully as usual executed by Nathan B into the right area for Tobi to pounce on the loose ball to even it up.  The away team were good in attack and caused us lots of problems but Coby M, captain for the day, was having a fantastic game in goal.  Dominating his box and four times  kept us in the game with outstanding shot-stopping saves.  Both sides were piling on the pressure end to end.  Joe R hit the bar with a wonderful left-footed strike and both the Tobi & Nathan hit the up-right.  The winning goal was straight off the futsal court.  As Faith broke up play, attacked and played wide to Nathan B who took a touch, looked up and with a pin-point cross slipped in Tobi for his second goal of the game.

A great team display some superb link-up play throughout the whole game.  Nathan W had a good 35 mins as a centre forward for the first time and came close on two occasions to scoring and I will be using him as a CF in future games.  Hayden, as usual, was lively on the right and went close late on to put the game to bed.  Faith again was class throughout and her pass completion is probably now one of the best in the team. Three 2-1 wins on the spin but more importantly another defensive rotate.

Next up, Belmont and a few ideas I am introducing from the youth module course which involves COACH BLAKE BEING SILIENT FOR 18 MINUTES!!!  Yes you heard it right.  I will let you know all about it this week.

Well done all players and parents.  It was a great game.

Today's Player of the Match was unquestionably, for the second day on the trot our u/14 GERMAN INTERNATIONAL !!! Coby M.  Well done Coby.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

http://sportingfutures.wordpress.com/2014/09/26/coaching-philosophy/

As I've said before you can learn just as much from other coaches on CPD (Continuous professional development ) courses as you can from FA tutors, something I was made aware of from a coach who I've  bumped into numerous times on coaching courses /CPD  events from Leigh Ramblers Fc. John Allpress  was a FA National Young Player Dev Coach from 2000- 2013 its a good read

DIAMOND DISPLAY!!!

###### 1-2 BHFC BLACK

A great advert for grassroots football with two good footballing sides going head to head.  We played with Joe & Faith as our back line and rotated Mitchell/Tobi and Ricky throughout the game at the base of the diamond.  The first half was fairly equal with  both teams going close on numerous occasions but our back line was solid    Faith had to come to our rescue once or  twice when we had switched off.  but the teams  went in level at half time.  Black quickly came racing out the blocks with Hayden starting to cause problems down the right and on 35 mins he cut inside the Rovers  No 8 and struck well hitting the post .but a  great follow up from Double J who slipped it under the keeper for his second goal of the season.  Blacks started to turn up the tempo and the second goal followed quickly.  Coby released Nathan who played a 20 yard ball to Tobi who made no mistake to put us 2-0 up.  rovers  started to come back at us and Coby had to be on his toes on 3 occasions as we caught out with our mid-field playing too high up the pitch.  the home side  pulled one back with 7 to play.  Joe had his shooting boots with him today and a cracking strike nearly made it 3 with  a 15 yard effort but the keeper tipped it over!  Joe had another long range effort as the clock ticked  down but the whistle went and our second 2-1 victory on the trot was finalised.  More importantly everyone had done their job and walked off with a smile on their face.  Ricky tried to blag another man of the match!!! Faith was another outstanding performer again today  and Mitchell looks really comfortable in the holding role as does Tobi & Ricky. Pleased to see Double J get  on the score sheet again for his second of the season.   Joe was faultless today in and out of possession  of the ball and is getting to be very vocal on the pitch so player of the match went to him well done JOE

I would like to say a "big thank you" to Jordan Butler, a current Charlton Athletic professional footballer  and England U19  International, who gave up her time and  took training yesterday.  Hopefully Jordan will come over more often to take some sessions. A week without football next Saturday & Sunday to give the pitches a rest and also all the parents  see you the week after #coyblack

SUNDAY PREVIEW !

UPR White preview

Don't panic I know you all stand by your hotmail accounts for the Sunday match preview !!!!
Today it comes live from Zurich airport gate D52 to be precise. On Route back from a video conference for the medical company Norvatis !
I will be expecting a tough challenge on Sunday as we look to build on last weeks result !
So the team layout will reflect that. Faith Mensahs back off international duty this week but  we lose Nathan W who will have big Puma Kings to be filled !

Treatment table

Again Nathan was cross with Tobi but this time it was an Elbow to the face and again a Match Attack card caused the confrontation Gary Stutchfield Senrab legend & 3 times London cup finalist !!was the card causing the disagreement
Although I've not actually seen that particular card !

Last times teams met

We have played UPR blue
and I'm told the old UPR red
Team recently beat a Barcelona 7  in there own back yard but I  don't see any relevance in the colours of the Rainbow for this match !

Around Seria N
Perez,s team still the team to beat after a 5-2 win against SAFC. Rumours circulating the BHFC Black coach Blake has been invited to the Churchill rooms at the Houses of Parliament in November as guest of the National Ankylosing Spondilitus society . I can confirm this is true so BHFC BLACK will be represented in "the big house"I will be looking for a Blue & Black scarf for the occasion !!

Anal part 333490

Praise , article below simplified as I learnt on one of the youth module courses (as opposed to I just dreamt it in the cab last night) !!! example Nathan at training last week had attempted to play a pass with his "bad foot" and in the air to Ricky who he new was in space on the right , the pass never reached Ricky but both me & Kev saw that Nathan had seen the pass and both praised Nathan for it, as opposed to focus on the fact that the pass didn't reach Ricky. The other point on that course was the 3 part process to managing a mistake /or getting over a coaching point in the form of positive /what you can do better ending with another positive ie Tobi you are a good goal scorer , we need to do a bit of work with your "bad foot" your positional play is 2nd to nun.  The opposite is called a shit Sandwich !! Tobi you really need to work on your left foot , your a good goal scorer , but we really need to work on control as well .

For those who read it hope ive explained well enough.
Next up article on the  Head tennis not to be missed !!!!

BLACK ON TRACK!!!

BHFC BLACK 2-1 LFC

I wasn't at the gig ! But seems another positive result with the  Blake brothers shoring up the back line . I think we have a record breaker amongst us  a goal after 39 secs from Mitchel P, is the fastest goal I can remember since I've been coaching .The "Fig" has also had a good weekend as Kev made him MOM today after I had @ training on Saturday for his  passing in training & seems like he took that into today's game , decision making is a major part of football and all the best players make the best decisions at the right times, so when to pass & when to dribble  or game intelligence is a must in football . With the weather of late not looking that great and no doubt there will be game / training cancelations sooner or later everywhere fortunately  our Monday Futsal sessions will not be affected another plus for indoor football (futsal) .we now come to what is the business end !!!!of phase 1 (phase 2 starts in January ) and we will be meeting some strong opposition in the coming month of so starting with UPR this coming Sunday so will be a good challenge for us & I don't for see any repeats of our 5-0 & 6-1 wins coming  soon . Thanks to Kev & Mark for helping out and it sounded like a good game . BTW By the time you read this we will have had over 1000 hits not bad eh!
This weeks International call up (rest week) is Nathan Wright, I've also been called up! to travel to  Zurich in Switzerland to represent Ankylosing Spondylitus for the Uk, always fancied representing my country but can do without the daily pain ! but I go Weds and come back Friday so no football missed and the medical company are paying all my expense's #happydays!

BLAKES JOBS ON THE LINE !!!!

***** 4-3 BHFC BLACK

A good workmanlike performance from everyone in blue and black as we embarked on our fifth match and our fifth defensive partnership of the season.  Tobi doned the gloves and our under 14 German came out to shore up our defence with Double J beside him.  We rotated Mitchell, Faith and Nathan W at the base of the diamond.  Both Coby and Joseph settled in to their first full game as a defensive unit and looked comfortable throughout.  Mitchell P put in another box to box performance.  Hayden P added to his goal tally from a Joe R pass as we tried to reply to a 2-1 deficit.  Hayden P was a consent menace to the HHFC back line.  We went in at half time 2-1 down.  Coby wanted to go back in goal so switched with Tobi so we tinkered a bit with Faith M joining Double J at the back.  We quickly conceded to make it 3-1 then a long  pass from Faith M slipped in Ricky F and it was game on.  Tobi gives us that little bit of craft in front of goal and with  2 mins left on the clock and us now 4-2 down he latched onto a Hayden pass to make it 4-3.  Although it was too late in the game to affect the result.

Lots of positives to take from the game.  Joseph's first ever game at the back and he looked superb  throughout.  Coby is as good on pitch as he is in goal.  Mitchell's non-stop running, Ricky finding the back of the net more often and the pass  Faith had plaudits from yet another opposing manager.  Nathan W looks comfortable in defence, midfield and up top and im still unsure of his best position   Another assist for Joe R who also  has great versatility and work ethic .  We were  unlucky  not to  get  more goals after two shots hit the post.  Although I do not want to make a big  issue out of it we all know prior to their winning goal it was a blatant penalty as Ricky was upended in their box.

Today's Players of the Match is Double J and Coby for their trip into the unknown into the defensive partnership. Next week we return to the NILCO ARENA for an 11.15 kick off, Kev Porter will be taking the team as I,m off again to a 70th wedding anniversary uuup Nooorth

MATCH REPORT 28/09/14

BHFC U/9 BLACK 1-1 SA

GUEST REPORT DAD STYLEEEE)!!

A blazing hot day at Estadio Rodini( NILCO ARENA !!!!) saw the unbeaten Blacks take on Shield Academy. Manager Stuart was scouting for new talent in Walthamstow so Coach Kev expertly stepped into Stuart's big shoes to lead the team.

A slow start from both teams, but then Buckhurst hill started to improve their passing game and pressed the opposition back. Some excellent crosses from Nathan B and Tobi were unlucky not to lead to a goal.

Coby was alert throughout the game and made an excellent save to grab a long range strike which bounced back off the crossbar.

Continuing pressure from Buckhurst Hill paid off early in the second half when a through ball from Nathan W found Mitchell who smashed home a great goal.

The heat started to take its toll on the Blacks and Shield Academy started to come back into the game. Excellent defending from Hayden and Faith limited their shots on the Buckhurst hill goal. Joseph and Joe both put in real shifts driving forward to attack and tracking back to deny the opposition time on the ball.

In the final five minutes the ball broke to a shield academy striker who scored from close range. A fair reward for their second half pressure

MATCH REPORT BY MARK WRIGHT

(GUEST REPORT WOMEN  STYLEEEEE)!!!!

The Nilco stadium was covered in sunshine on this swelteringly hot late September day and tensions were mounting for our 4th league game of the season. We started strong with Nathan W keeping a solid wall at the back. Faith was tough and dependable as usual running up and down the pitch and showing no signs of fatigue.

> After 5 minutes their goal keeper proved his worth by saving a cracking shot from Blake 7 brilliantly assisted by Blake 14.  Hayden made some great runs but still no goal. Joseph J threaded through a pass to Mitchell which led to a great shot which again just missed their net. We continued to dominate in the first half although Coby was tested when he saved a tough shot. The stalemate continued as halftime time approached.
>
> The Blacks came into the second half determined to get one in the net. Then it happened - Hayden made an excellent pass to Mitchell who with his usual flair found the net - goal. 1-0!

> Joe R went on to make an outstanding run the length of the pitch and just missed the goal with a magic cross. There was a big goalmouth scramble with the keeper saving well 3 times with shots from Joseph J, Mitchell and Faith in the space of 30 seconds.

> End to end football gold continued with good, clean gamesmanship.
> This week we had a proper referee who actually stopped the match when someone was injured! Their coach got a ball from Faith in the man bits and did a little jig which made us all laugh!
>
> Nathan B made a fantastic cross to his twin's head - Tobi gave a great header but just missed the net. Their crosses and headers are just getting better and better but then again, they do live with the Coach!
>
> Defensive errors and players tiring in the heat led to shot on goal that Coby had no chance of saving 1-1. We deserved to win but the other team kept tough and were solid and very well paced with 2 tough goal keepers. They came back strongly at the end and saves from Coby ensured the match was a draw and our unbeaten run continues.

> All in all an enjoyable match with all players contributing well.

MATCH REPORT FROM EMMA SANDLER JAMES

MASSIVE THANKS TO EMMA AND MARK FOR  THE MATCH REPORTS NOT A BAD IDEA IN FUTURE IF ANYONE WANTS TO ADD TO MINE FEEL FREE TO SEND ME ONE

little bit at the end from Coach Blake Thanks to  Kev & Mark for stepping in as I was helping out a top man who's made a massive contribution to my quality of life since I was Diagnosed with my condition 2011."
Back to football we have now had Four different defensive partnerships and  still remain  unbeaten(which is not overly important   ) but  in my opinion is a massive  plus to what we are trying to achieve  long term and without the support of you  the parents we cant achieve   this , our goal should IMO  be  long term rather than short term we will come unstuck(from time to time ) as my dad would say but keep the Faith !!!! Lets do the right thing !!COYBLACK
We had a behind closed doors training session on Saturday!!!!!!! and did 20 mins at the end  on game management, how to play differently when you're losing as opposed to winning (park the bus !!!!!) just to sow a seed in the kids heads going to carry this on again in the future some may say their  too young to think about tactics but I don't think we give children enough credit at this age , on Saturday we did this for ten minutes per team and believe me seeing 8 year olds throwing there bodies on the line to defend  they definitely got the task

MATCH REPORT 21/09/14

******** 3-3 BHFC BLACK

A game where coaches/parents/players had to stand up and be counted.

This game, I felt, was far more physical than should have been allowed for any under 9s team but not with standing that we were far the better team from the start.  With lots of energy we took the game to B & P from minute one .  I keep hearing  the words "this player can never be a defender" by coaches and parents alike perhaps they should have been at our game today as Ricky F and Mitchell P were faultless and disciplined from start to finish.  Faith sat for long periods at the front of the diamond which made  our defence look somewhat reminiscent of a brick wall.  The whole team battled for every ball and I was proud of every last player in blue and black.  Hayden's trickery and skill was causing havoc for their full back and we quickly raced into a 1-0 lead when Ricky F found Hayden to put us 1 up after 7 mins.

The same partnership on 14 mins doubled the lead.  Nathan & Tobi entered the fray to replace the tireless work of Joe Regan & Hayden P  on 17 mins and both made a massive contribution for us.  We went in at half time on a 2-0 lead.  On 32 minutes Nathan sent in another one of his pinpoint crosses for  Tobi to  head  home to make it 3-0.  The tackles from both teams were physical to say the least.  B & P pulled 2 goals back in the final 8 minutes of time and with the clock well into Fergie time!!! Hayden was left in a heap in our half rolling around the floor in  agony but the ref allowed the play to continue  and Bowers went on to equalise  !! The whistle blew seconds later  for the end of the game I was proud to be coach of this wonderful group of kids who battled from start to finish.  Three of whom came off the pitch at one time or another injured.  For me the biggest plus was the discipline in defence was Ricky F and Mitchell P who were outstanding throughout.

Nathan W played superbly at centre forward  a sitting midfielder and left winger.  Bullet proof Faith M even had to come off injured at one point and our u14 ! German international goalkeeper Coby M !! also took one in the ribs  that's how physical the game was.  Joe R, again was outstanding at centre forward and defence   I have lodged a complaint about the referee which will probably fall on deaf ears but today was all about having to play a different way than usual.  I could not fault anyone but for me Ricky F stood out and certainly came of age a strong and mature performance resulting in 2 assists  to his name.

A brilliant day to be associated with these great bunch of kids.

Good mornings football at West Hams development centre we had a round robin of 5 games and we started with a game against DUFC  just 6 days after we met at Estadio  Rodini .
Mitchel P with a brace  Joe R, and Hayden all on the score sheet .Next up we had CP  from the league above with Tobi B adding two to his tally making it a good start with some free flowing football which as we play Futsal using confined spaces played right into our hands .
Third game was another encounter against Rudi,s Belmont which is always a tight affair the 3rd draw in 4 games against them and im sure both teams will do well in this league this year.
PV RANGERS  was next up and this game the score was never in DOUBT !!! as I made it a 2-2 DRAW !!!!the players made it  2-1  but there in our league and looked a good outfit so ill be preparing for a tough game against them . Odd numbers I presume so we ended up playing CP  for the 2nd time which ended in a 1-0 loss, so all in all a worth while exercise which will be repeated in January 2015  some great play but again discipline in defence let us down on a few occasions , which we will need to sort out if we are going to progress to higher divisions. Based on improvement /work rate/ discipline in position  and  Three !!  great strikes I am going to go with Mitchel P as MOM today so he  will captain the team tomorrow well done Mitchell

BHFC U9 BLACK 5-1 ************

BHFC U9 BLACK 5-1 **********

BHFC U9 Black,s  start to the new season continued with a great display against a big ***** United team.  We started with a Nathan B & Tobi back line together with Faith M at the bottom of the diamond, Joseph & Nathan W on the flanks and Hayden leading the line.  A tight first half where we had most of the play and found a good passing rhythm.  The deadline was broken on five minutes with Tobi finding Hayden for his third goal in two games.  We struggled to test their keeper for most of the first half but on 20 mins the Blacks had a free kick on the edge of the *******United box and Nathan B stepped up with a sweet left foot free kick which struck the bar.  We went in at half time with a 1-0 lead.  Coby M made his on-field debut at half time with Nathan B taking the gloves.  We seemed  to start the second half playing with more purpose.  After 5 mins Nathan W put in Tobi for his first goal of the season.  Tobi then got his second of the game on 32 mins after some great work by Joe R and on 39 mins we looked comfortable as Joe was rewarded for his hard work for his 2nd  of the season and 4th in 3 games and   Another assist from Hayden P.

Goal of the game was surely Faith M.s With the clock running down  the ball broke to Faith 25 yards out  who found herself in loads of space and a quick glance she spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him to seal a fantastic non-stop running performance.  I couldn't give player of the match to anyone else other than Faith M today.  Ricky F had another strong solid game running and battling for every ball and Nathan W was superb in every position he played.

Joseph nearly got his second in two games and was commented by Ron Manager !!! (Gary Stutchfield BHFC Whites) who said he was a good player and really fitted in well with the team).  Coby was pretty much unchallenged in goal and looks just as comfortable on the pitch as he does in between the sticks.  Great start for our new club.  11 goals only one conceded in 2 games.
Id like to thank Mark Wright for stepping in for us yesterday to take training the kids loved it

BLACK MAGIC !

********* 0-6 BUCKHURST HILL BLACK

If Carlsburg did first league performances in a Buckhurst Hill shirt this would have been it! I counted 9 corners in the first half and the pass & move was at a different  age level.  We started with Joe & Faith as the first defensive partnership of the league season and Nathan W as a sitting mid-fielder with Hayden and Mitchell playing on the flanks and tricky Ricky leading the line.  Despite having all the possession on a pitch that had not seen a lawn mower for a good 6 months we failed to hit the target. Then there was a Hayden solo run which  resulted in a great finish to put us ahead.  Soon after Joseph who has fitted in superbly assisted Joe for his third goal in 2 games this meant we went in 2-0 up at half time.  It  took about 5 mins in the second half for us to put the game to bed.  Another jinking solo run from Hayden and a pin point cross saw Nathan B strike into the top left hand corner on the half volley.  Rolls reversed for the fourth as Nathan B turned provider  for Hayden to get his second of the game.  Nathan B got his second with a speculative  cross into the box which came off a UPR player to make it 5-0 but we wasn't finished there the debut man Joseph got in on the act, his first for his new team to make it 6-0.

Mitchell was desperately unlucky  in the final 5 mins with a fantastic drive which looked a dead cert to fly into the top corner but the keeper with probably the best save I have seen at this level unbelievably pushed it over the bar,

Taking the score away from the game, it was a superb all round performance with Faith playing like an under 12 at the back.  Ricky as usual full of energy and Mitchell again working his socks off leaving poor old Coby a mere spectator for most of  the game.  In hindsight I should have played Coby on pitch for the last 10 mins.  Nathan W played the introduction of the sitting mid-fielder with ease and perfection.  Well done Nathan W & Joseph on their first league games for BHFC Black.

Thank you for your support today.  Futsal normal time Monday.  Training 10.30 Saturday and a tough home game next Sunday against Dagenham United .
