Tough thought draw for Black

A tough challenge for the first game of the second phase.  Last time these teams met it was a tight 1-1 draw and this game was no different.

We started with Mitchell P and Ricky F as our defensive partnership and Joe R as our sitting mid-fielder.  It was a tight opening first quarter but on 12 mins we were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Nathan B stepped up and executed a strike into the top right hand corner.  Another unstoppable free kick!  Our tracking back was much better today but a little lapse albeit a good passing move from SA found us going in 1-1 at the break.  Loads of chances in the second half with Nathan, Ricky, Joe, Faith, Mitch, Nathan W, Double J and Hayden all going close but their goal keeper was having a good day.  On 40 mins as superb tackle from Faith M clearly wining the ball was unbelievable judged to be a foul.  Then SA was given a penalty but justice was done when the Under14 German !! saved his second penalty in a row.  A fantastic save from Coby M.

We failed to press in our box when SA attacked which found us going into the last 5 mins  2-1 down.  We piled on the pressure with time running out  Coby M was sent up for 2 corners to create a bit of havoc in their box and its worked.  SA failed to clear and the first time Mitch who had been disciplined throughout in his defensive role ventured forward, Nathan B found  him in a bit of space &  Mitch slotted in to save the game!

It was a well earned draw.  Everyone put in a shift in blue & black especially Mitch P who was the much deserved   Player of the Match.  Their manager kindly commented at the end of the game "we were a very good footballing team".

Goals:  Nathan Blake (Free kick), Mitchell P

Assists: Nathan B

Captain: Ricky F and Mitchell P (Defence)

Man of Match - Mitchell P
