Third game in this ultra competitive Echo League Devon Division our two previous games heralded a draw and a loss but our performances to date have been superb regardless of results. Our individual player rotation has thrown out come great defensive displays.
This mornings game was against a very good Rudi Perez team who we have not beaten in the last five games. We started on the front foot with Nathan B having two long strikes superbly saved by the opposition keeper. One from about 25 yards. The opposition's first real attack on goal put us one down. We were caught ball watching and got punished for it. We were playing some nice tidy football and on 15 minutes Mitch P put the ball in the back of the net but the ref had blown the whistle for a free kick but Joe R made no mistake. A thunderbolt of a free kick drew us level. We were stronger in defence after the break with Joseph J running the show in mid-field. Coby M pulled some decent saves to keep us in the game. Mitch P worked his socks off as was Hayden down the right with Nathan B always looking a threat in the middle . Tobi B sat at the base of the diamond but had a hard act to follow replacing the disciplined Nathan W who had a great game in the sitting role. Joe and Faith were the glue that stuck the team together. Five minutes from time Tobi fired a strong effort at the opposition goalkeeper who saved and Mitch P powered in to make it 2-1.
A great game to manage and watch from start to finish. Respect to Rudi Perez who has a hard working set of boys and make it very hard for us to break them down.
No negatives from the game but I must add the importance of practicing all drills with both feet. It is a well known fact that 5-11 are the golden years of physical literacy. At 12 years of age it will become harder to work on your weaker foot. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Look at Cristiano Ronaldo and tell me what his natural foot is?? I don't know the answer. That only comes from practicing simply repeating kicking the ball against the wall for starters will help try it at home .
well done players and parents great support today
