Couldn't of asked for a better reaction after a few suspect displays of late. Me & Kev asked the boys to tighten up at the back especially with Faith being out injured. The wing back option that we started to play at the end of last season looked a good system for us ,with the amount of attacking players we have in the team, after 3 years of rotating positions everyone including Coby is capable of playing in defence .I explained if a player on the flank or Nathan has space in the middle of the pitch exploit it and attack, the trade off is the other two must come in and cover the middle of the pitch , or failing that a midfield player drops in . I read a lot of coaches saying you cant teach kids tactics at u/10, I strongly disagree, its all about forming good habits and of course what the coaches philosophy is on the game. I recently watched an u/10 team play at the BHFC tournament where I watched two lets say large players playing at the back for a team, when they got the ball it was boooom up pitch.!!!
Maybe that is the coaches philosophy !!. Thank you coach for developing our next generation of players comfortable with the ball at there feet !! .Safe option for the coach, he may not lose many games !! but is that great for developing players ???.On that point one part of the game I watched Coby have the ball at his feet a little fake to off balance the on coming player and it was nicely played out to Tobi .Coby may do that another time & the player nicks it and puts it in the back of the net :) , big deal , this is u/10 football not the champions league final, the other option is row z, im happy with the option Coby chose. Another nice little piece of magic was Tobi,s Maradona in the middle of the pitch, great to see they are all comfortable with these little pieces of skill that they can execute without a coach or a parent shouting out "not in there" or "get rid of it "!!
Back to the game a commanding performance from Nathan W at the back, playing an old fashioned sweeper role, as always selfless in his play, always for the team never for himself. Think Andrew Fig had loaded Ricky up with Weetabix , "the Fig chased every ball, same again next week "FIG"!!
Good news with the signing of William Packer, my pen was out within 60 seconds of watching him, hope he will enjoy playing with the MIGHTY BLACKS , hopefully he will be available for the weekend. So a loss but the game could of gone either way, we had our chances, but all in all, was pleased with the way we played again, rotation of positions.
We go again next week.
