Another challenging game in this Avon league u/10 game .Again we carried on with our wing back formation which I had prompted the kids I might change as I didn't know a lot about the opposition. We had worked on for two hours on Saturday pressing, defending , screening forward passes, (the kids wouldn't know about the later but gave them a rough guide as to why we would want to anticipate passes in the final third) Our pressing and getting the nearest player behind the ball, was the main reason for the training on Saturday. You have to use a certain way to explain to u/10,s and most importantly I believe you have to tell them why we do certain things in training and in a game . By closing an opponent down quickly you make it more difficult for them to pass or dribble, sometimes the mere fact you are in front of them is enough for you to force an error, Nathan B did it numerous times in the 2 nd half,, just my opinion but I believe some of the best defenders don't need to tackle, their reading of the game is so great that that they snuff out the pass before a tackle is needed, I listened to a Ruud Gullet interview once about this player https://youtu.be/sKp9W_gJ2r8 , he said he hardly ever see him make a tackle. Back to the game, I think it was a fair result not a great deal for either keeper to do , Cobi got us out of trouble with a tip over from close range, and their keeper, kept out double j with a worldly with 10 to go , was a superb save . The main thing is we learnt from last week. Had an internal discussion on Sunday and I have decided to keep my two in defence when possible until they understand their role as a wing back. Will be great for there game, we all know they can score goals, I am totally against the £5 per goal parent or grandparent (or once had a mum in another team , said to their son he wasn't getting Sunday dinner if he didn't score jeeeeeez, no wonder the kid never passed the ball !) !!! as most of you know, but their could be a negotiation for keeping a clean sheet :) .
Nearly at the half way stage and performances have been very good, we all want to win games I never go out to lose always to develop , to be still rotating at this level when all the other teams are in fixed positions should give us all a great sense of achievement and pride .Saying that I think its a must we stay in this league, with every week bringing in a fresh challenge, and I think the physicality (fair physicality !) can only be a plus .Away to trip to Belmont on Saturday for all Saturday trainers, Bretons on Sunday and Leyton Orient on Tuesday #COYBLACK
