A game when every player had a 9/10 performance from start to finish. The pass and move was outstanding , the finishing was incredible (worked on it Saturday at training ), playing out from the back was cool, calm , composed with a diamond or triangle of options that we consistently talk about. I particularly gave 4 players challenges in the game .
1. Mitch
I asked Mitch to up his pass completion stats ( at a guess a 70 % increase )
2. Will Packer , the power he generates from shots , to shoot on sight ( 2 goals from distance )
3. The Fig , to track a certain player and work with Faith to nullify his attacking threat ( still in Rickys pocket this morning !!!)
4. Tobi to pass to Nathan when a pass is on (2 assists , both Nathans goals)
Everything we had worked on in training over the last month came out in the game . To add to all that I think there GK was man of the match. A pleasure to watch the game , would of paid money to watch it .We all have views on how the game should be played and for me Sundays performance was it . I've changed the system to a back 2 with a holding player, just to jog the memory as we have played a wing back system for most of the season .Reason being I think you need to adapt your system to how other teams set up and my view you need to be flexible. Do players at u/10, completely understand the difference within the 2 systems , probably not , but its all about forming habits , with us our defenders are attackers if space allows . I've also watched a player at Leyton Orient this season who plays as a target man /CF, who comes back for corners to defend as a centre back due to his areal ability, and tracks back to defend, shuts down , presses. Me and Kev realised what that gives the team especially from corners, so our players who are comfortable headers of the ball now defend and attack corners at either end , whilst the ones who are not defend or situate them selves higher up the pitch depending who,s corner it is . Obviously the ones less comfortable we can work on in training , although I haven't seen too many youth coaches do much work on this at grassroots or academy level, think it will just happen naturally , over a period of time .No game or training this week , a nice week off for some, Futsal on Saturday vs CM futsal for those who have told me they are going.
13 th December will be our last game before xmas , I am trying to get us a friendly on Saturday the 12 th December, maybe vs Cheshunt Fc but not confirmed yet. We will resume training on Saturday the 9 th January . Well done again yesterday a great display , could of picked anyone for man of the match yesterday , but will give it to Tobi by virtue , he hasn't had it this season !
Good luck picking player of the year this season !!!!
