4 VS 4 DUTCH STYLE GAMES - GIVE THEM A BALL AND SET THEM FREE !

"The game is only 11v11 in the
tunnel, once the game begins it’s a
number of different situations made
up of 1v1’s, 3v2’s, 4v4’s…………”

Anyone who has ever come to any of my futsal / grass sessions knows how big I am on small sided games, that's why I started futsal in 2014 as a team training session for our BHFC BLACK U/10 team. We recently did something similar at the BHFC SOCCER CAMP , Danny Parman made it 3 vs 3 though, so even more touches /passes/1vs1,s etc. Dutch style ?????? so I thought, although , Steve Lomas told me over a pint of Peroni in the 3 colts !!! Ron Greenwood was playing these games years ago .  These games  can be  taken further , I  also use target players at the side and the ends and can be progressed by only scoring by using different parts of the foot, weaker foot , chipping the ball the list is endless, they are great games for ,warm ups, mid session, or end games , can be used for sessions on short passing, turning, creating space etc etc etc etc

No coaching, the game is the teacher

Simple to set up

Simplifies the choices in possession [pass, dribble, shoot]

More player participation

Different games bring different problems to solve and skills used

More touches of the ball

More passes attempted

More 1v1’s attempted

More goals scored

When used, keeper participation is greatly increased

No refs

No results recorded

No positions, just footballers

Children take responsibility

The Coerver way , why i am big into ball manipulation and 1 vs 1,s

Just applied for a job as a part time coach at Coerver , which led to me look through their website again .The top video is the course I attended at Fulhams fc in 2013, the 2nd video explains a bit about their  player development structure, good watch for those interested

Wanting to play Futsal after xmas ?

Futsal club Roding are looking  for players who want to play Futsal after xmas in the Loughton area . u/7,s u/8,s Tuesdays 5 till 6pm  and u/9,s u/10,s Tuesdays 6-7 pm .Email me Stuart.blake@bhfc.co.uk.
What is futsal , best explained here by youth coach Steve Watson

http://7coachblake.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/by-youth-coach-steve-watson.html

By youth coach Steve Watson

Turbo charge your players’ football skills in 20 minutes

I am not exaggerating when I say - in terms of youth player development - 20 minutes playing futsal is worth hundreds of minutes playing regular youth football.
What is futsal?
Futsal is a 5 a side football-like game that is played on a small (usually indoor) court.
How will playing futsal help your players?
Children develop their football skills via practice and experimentation. They need to find out what works and what doesn't when they're faced with an opponent.
Several studies have shown that in a 60 minute small sided football match a young player will have the chance to practice their skills in 1v1 situations about twenty times.
But in a short, twenty minute game of futsal, the same player will find themselves in more than eighty 1v1 situations!
futsalforkids image
Futsal is great for young players to
learn a range of key skills

Children who play futsal become more agile, faster, stronger and have better balance. It also helps youngsters become more comfortable with the ball and give them lots of opportunities to practice passing, dribbling, turning, shooting and ball control whilst under pressure. Your players will pass more often, shoot more and score more goals.
Compared to football, futsal demands more versatile players. It's normal for every player to play in every position on the field during the course of a game. Futsal players are not labelled as defenders, midfielders or attackers like they are in football.
In futsal, you will never see bored defenders stuck in their own half while all the action is taking place thirty yards away, as you do in so many youth football games. You will never see a young futsal keeper shivering from the cold and desperately trying to look interested as his team-mates play with the ball at the other end of the field.
The small court and the way a futsal ball sticks to a young player's feet helps players learn how to control the ball quickly in tight spaces, make rapid decisions, shoot instinctively and constantly look to support their team-mates. So it's an excellent way to develop competencies that can be directly transferred to seven, nine or eleven a side football.
So why don't more coaches teach their players to play futsal?
1. Lack of facilities
Futsal is best played indoors but there is no reason why you can't play futsal in school halls, car parks, on Astroturf, 3G or even on grass.
2. I don't have a futsal!
A futsal ball has a special bladder that gives it it's unique low bounce but if you don't have one, you can play futsal with a football ball that has been slightly deflated.
3. I want be The Coach!
The coach in futsal is very much in the background. There is no time to shout instructions and players have to think for themselves. There are often no parents on the sidelines to impress. So futsal is a bit of let down for the many coaches who like being The Coach and love to hear the sound of their own voices.

EXPERIENCED DEFENDER WANTED (U/10) READ ON !!!!!! ...........................................

Another top performance on Sunday against a team who like us have only lost 3 games this season, it was just as thou we had continued from where we left off from the last league game .We was on the front  foot from the start with Tobi on the right and Hayden on the left destroying the right and left backs, some great link up play and double J found Hayden in space to put us one up on 17 minutes and well deserved as we had gone close on numerous occasions , we just couldn't find that finish. The passing and all round movement off the ball which has been evident all season was a joy to watch , adding that solidity at the back ,with Will playing only his 2nd game in defence with the more seasoned Joe Regan, we was always going to be hard to beat. Faith back in that holding midfield role holds it all together and all 3 know that if space allows they have licence to attack at Will. Faith's  confidence in attack  in recent weeks I think comes from trusting the boys understanding of there  defensive duties now, they seem to have finally realised the importance of defending, and when you have a team who all understand and can play in defence and add to that anyone can hit the back of the net, you are always going to be hard to beat. The midfield also work tirelessly supporting who was ever playing in the final 3rd and helping out the defence .Double j,s passing vision, Mitch,s tireless running, and when we had to bring players off, the players who came on ,  in this case the two Nathans were as good as the players you bring off . Coby had a few saves to make but was reasonably un troubled in the game . I have to give credit to the headed goal by the opposition , one of the best headed goals I have seen in youth football (mind you I havnt seen too many , and when I have they have probably been by our team #justsaying!!)Been a great season so far, far better than I expected, we trained pretty much all summer, added to the team well bringing in Will. We have a tight nit group which you will always get with a core of players who go to the same school, most train together twice a week and socialise together. Add to that when they play they play with no pressure or fear of making a mistake. Going forward it wouldn't be unlike me to pick a team to play who lets say may give us something to think about, like we did at the start of the season , a good whooping wont do them any harm, as we always seem to come out of it for the better.

NON COMPETATIVE LEAGUES

A few of you see the whatsapp post about a county FA talking up the value of no league tables /non competitive games . I have never met anyone who likes to lose,  man /women or child, but the result should never take precedent over development, we would of won shed loads more games over the last 4 years if I would of played the stronger defensive players every week  and our best goal scorers/ attacking players in the same positions . . From research and talking to highly qualified  coaches ,every player must have a defensive and attacking mind-set, be comfortable on the ball be dominant in 1 vs 1 situations and be able to play with both feet by the time they exit the foundation stage at 12.You definitely wont get all them skills  pigeon holing players at 9 years old . By being able to play in multiple positions at a younger age you will develop an all-round better player at 15. If you was great at maths at school would you only want your child to do maths but not English ??  Players will find their  better positions organically. I would never enter to into a league where I couldn't rotate players, that would go against everything I have ever been taught .The player should be at the centre of everything we do as coaches , but we see it all to often in the English game the " win at all costs mentality " .I was sent a tweet this week by Rudi at Belmont , a team looking for an experienced DEFENDER AT U/10 !!!!!! WTF. Only in England would that happen! .Why not coach one into being a defender "that's coaching " We will continue with the " total football " mentality win lose or draw, that will definitely give our players a better grounding to take into what ever they standard they end up playing. Back to non competitive leagues , every team will be placed into a league on ability, the teams struggling will be relegated and the teams winning will be promoted. But would you want to win games at u/10 by playing your best 7 players every week, no rotation ,  no equal playing time ? I personally wouldn't , I would rather make the players I coach better, because that is coaching. We have good players all of similar ability but with different strengths, 4 naturally left footed players, four players who scored 100 goals between them last year, every player can defend , most can play in goal,  We are probably at our level in league status, we are challenged every week and the kids are enjoying there football, having 2 teams at the club in leagues above us I would definitely want to repeat the friendlies over 20 mins we had at the start of the season , I think the two loses (one very heavy ) didn't do us any harm , caused me a few sleepless nights !!! but again its all about the kids

Article from "Keep the ball " by John Cartwright , it was thou i wrote it myself !

This ‘rotational’ form of playing requires a team of highly talented individual players who possess the skills, game awareness and physical qualities for the game. I have often thought that we have not utilised opportunities to convert talented players to other areas of a team to both enhance their own playing qualities and increase the playing standards of that team

https://keeptheball.wordpress.com/2015/12/09/total-talent/

Too often players remain ‘fixed’ to a positional role due to limited team selection or a lack of positional experimentation and our game has failed to make sufficient progress. There have been successful ‘conversions’ in the past but these have been rare.

If Carlsburg did.................

A game when every player had a 9/10 performance from start to finish. The pass and move was outstanding , the finishing was incredible (worked on it Saturday at training ), playing out from the back was cool, calm , composed with a diamond or triangle of options that we consistently talk about. I particularly gave 4 players challenges in the game .
1. Mitch
I asked Mitch to up his pass completion stats ( at a guess a 70 % increase )
2. Will Packer , the power he generates from shots , to shoot on sight ( 2 goals from distance )
3. The Fig , to track a certain player and work with Faith to nullify his attacking threat ( still in Rickys pocket this morning !!!)
4. Tobi to pass to Nathan when a pass is on (2 assists , both Nathans goals)
Everything we had worked on in training over the last month came out in the game . To add to all that I think there GK was man of the match. A pleasure to watch the game , would of paid money to watch it .We all have views on how the game should be played and for me Sundays performance was it . I've changed the system to a back 2 with a holding player, just to jog the memory as we have played a wing back system for most of the season .Reason being I think  you need to adapt your system to how other teams set up and my view you need to be  flexible. Do players at u/10, completely understand the difference within the 2 systems , probably not , but its all about forming habits , with us our defenders are attackers if space allows .  I've also  watched a player at Leyton Orient this season  who plays as a target man /CF, who comes back for corners to defend as a centre back due to his areal ability, and tracks back to defend, shuts down , presses. Me and Kev realised what that gives the team especially from corners, so our players who are comfortable headers of the ball now defend and attack corners at either end , whilst the ones who are not defend or situate them selves higher up the pitch depending who,s corner it is . Obviously the ones less comfortable we can work on in training , although I haven't seen too many youth coaches do much work on this at grassroots or academy level, think it will just happen naturally , over a period of time .No game or training this week , a nice week off for some, Futsal on Saturday vs CM futsal for those who have told me they are going.
13 th December will be our last game before xmas , I am trying to get us a friendly on Saturday the 12 th December, maybe vs Cheshunt Fc but not confirmed yet. We will  resume training on Saturday the 9 th January . Well done again yesterday a great display , could of picked anyone for man of the match yesterday , but will give it to Tobi by virtue , he hasn't had it this season !
Good luck picking player of the year this season !!!!

“I’m not a football coach but I do train at a world championship level of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and unopposed training is essential to development for my sport. Drilling techniques unopposed at a gradual increase in speed helps develop ‘perfect’ technique and helps with problem solving. Doing live training with a partner with full resistance is introduced and helps bring it all together. At my age technique is so important as I’m a bit slower and a bit weaker. My coach who is a 10 times world champion has a saying. ‘Technique Conquers All’ Doing things always opposed will make the athlete miss the subtle steps in successful technique. Confidence in skill starts unopposed then the is built upon in live sessions with opposition..”
– Ross Finlayson (Edmonton, Canada)

A football player must leave foundation phase with these assets

It has to be a priority for players to leave the foundation phase with these three main assets.
  1. The ability to play and receive of both feet,
  2. Dominate 1v1 situations and
  3. Be complete masters of the ball

As small piece on the youth modules written by John Allpress

Written By John Allpress, FA National Player Development Coach and reproduced from TheFA.Com

Many comments or questions that I am asked by youth coaches are usually centred on problems they don’t understand or can’t solve.
The FA Youth Award Level 3 is designed to equip coaches of children and young players with those necessary understandings, and so it is important that more coaches are encouraged to take up the challenge of the award.
In order to do that, I have outlined the big messages from the FA Youth Award Level 3 in the hope it will highlight how it will help you to become the confident, organised, effective and successful youth coach you would like to be.

Module 1

Creating the right learning environment – patience is key.
What messages do you give out as a coach? Think about:
  • Behaviour
  • Body language
  • Verbal Language – using ‘I’ language such as “I understand if…I want you to try this…”
  • Praising effort – e.g. ‘trying your best’ is under the players’ control BUT ‘doing your best’ is not
  • Relaxed – ‘trial and error’ approach – not be fearful to experiment and have a go at new stuff

Module 2

Design the right game or practice to support players’ learning needs and get the returns you want.
Remember the three “R’s”– Relevance, Repetition, Realism
  • For learning how to play football – directional practices with offside or elements of offside are best
  • Players learning in an integrated way – blending the skills required into the decisions that have to be made in the game they are learning to play
Remember – ‘Live it to learn it!’

Module 3

  • Set the right challenge(s) or task(s) e.g. Try to let the ball run across your body and play forward
  • Ask the right question(s) to support the challenge e.g. how will the pass you receive help you? How many touches do you need? How will you see when to make the pass?
  • Give the players the opportunity to evaluate their performance either as part of the review process or in the MOVIE – encourage and promote curiosity with questions such as these:
  1. When does it work?
  2. Why does it work?
  3. What’s stopping you and how can you (we) solve it?
  4. How can it be better?
  5. What can I try next?
  6. What are the hard bits?

Summary

What distinguishes the best youth coaches from the rest? The best understand their players and their needs – technically, tactically, psychologically, socially and physically.
What young players want:
  • To take responsibility for their learning
  • To be treated with respect
  • To play the real game so they get real things to explore
  • To have choice in what, where, when and how they are learn
  • The challenge of getting their teeth into difficult but not demoralising things and to experience the satisfaction of making progress
  • To get together and collaborate
  • To discuss, copy, struggle and learn in others’ company
Changes within you as a coach and person take time and effort. On the whole they happen gradually and often come about unnoticed by you nor by, somewhat more significantly, others, especially your players.
Try not to get dismayed by setbacks and always remember when things go well. Remember you are in control of your behaviour and you have a choice as to how you deal with the players in your care.
So why not start today? Become the coach you want to be.

Unbeaten run continues

####### 0-0 BHFC BLACK

A very tight affair and we found them very hard to break down, they were very organised at the back but then so were we as we rotated again , this time Mitch , Joe R at the back with Faith sitting JUST in front . Even though we play a lot of Futsal I think we play better on a bigger pitch and  we  didn't really  get  a rhythm going today .Chances were at a minimum and they definitely had more of them , but " the German "was in fine form from start to finish , tipping 3 round the post and one over the bar. The figs late shot hit the cross bar, I gotta be honest,  Tobi getting shoved over in the box was a stonewall penalty for me ,  but then Ricky unintentionally handling  in our box earlier on ( yeh I see it FIG)!!! and I really think a draw was a fair result in the end , so no complaints from me. Nice to be able to not be firing on all cylinders and still get a result. We brought in the match attacks as an incentive to keep a clean sheet 3 weeks ago and that was  the 2nd clean sheet in that time .It maybe just a coincidence but the kids like it and me & Kev  love a clean sheet so everyone's HAPPY ! Another tough game next week , then a Sunday off on the 6th December COYBLACK

BLACK HIT 5 TH GEAR !

######## 2-5 BHFC BLACK

Probably our most complete performance of the season , the opposition have beaten us in the last 2 encounters and are always good to play against , fair and  good challenge for us . We reverted back to a 2 man defence and Faith sitting in a holding midfield role screening, a system we had used for a year until we started to play wing backs at the tale end of last season. Will Packer played his first league game in defence and I asked him to find them passes into the midfield , he did it superbly for the first goal with a fantastic switch of play from right to left and found the FIG ! who slotted home. The football we played in the first 15 minutes was probably the best of the season, I had given  the players individual challenges (youth module 3 ) and a pro player as an example of who to   play like , forgetting how old I am I gave the fig Roy Keane as  an example .He told me Sunday that he didn't know who he was , but full marks to daddy fig,!! who had showed him youtube clips on Saturday night ,.I always new we had a squad of good players but it only dawned on me when I looked on the touch line at 3-0 up and Nathan /Tobi and Joe were in bibs !/. Every player met there individual challenge, Faith getting her first goal of the season , Hayden another header , Ricky with a brace and Tobi completing the 5 .

Youth module 3

Normally on courses you attend with coaches on the same standard (certificate wise ) as yourself. Youth module 3 was different, me and man like Dave D -)  were in very experienced company. Almost all the London Fa hierarchy were in attendance, uefa B coaches A licence coaches , FA tutors for level 1 & 2 , and academy coaches from West Ham , Chelsea , Arsenal , Crystal Palace . Sitting next to me was the head coach  at the  London FA , a great chance for me to pick brains , and see if what I am doing is the right way . One of the discussions on the course was about pitching your self in too higher league , in which you are unable to rotate your players in different positions. One story that arose was of a coach who against his will had been put into a league where he was forced to play his kids in fixed positions to enable them to stay in the league .He was saying that the parents of 3 or 4 kids were driving the club to play at the highest level in order that there kids be scouted by pro clubs !!!   We all know the stats on becoming a pro footballer , the club looks likely to be relegated according to him even thou the best positions were selected, every one seemed to be in agreement what a waste of a years football . That's what you are up against at some clubs , luckily we don't have that problem .

Leyton Orient game

Had a nice email from the foundation manager saying , that their  kids were challenged in the game against us. Obviously not everyone gets invited in to play academy teams, we were invited to play them as we were seen to be a challenge for there u/9s , if we had won by 9 or 10 goals or the other way round it would of been seen as not a challenge to there players. They also look at,  I am told the t behaviour of the coach, players , and parents when selecting teams to come in . Obviously that gives Buckhurst Hill , and the u/10, blacks a good name in the eyes of Leyton Orient and we will be invited back again .We had a player play in the game who hopefuly  will want to play for us next season , which gives us a 12 man squad, if we stay as a group which I hope we do we will be looking for one addition 2 maximum , and me & Kev will want to sort that out just after xmas in principle.

Season so far

We have been challenged in every game and have stepped up well in this division , most games there has only been 0ne goal in the result, which I think is a good thing, apart from the EMH blip, we have been a match for every team in this division . No doubt we will be beaten again b4 the end of the season , its not all about results but W6 L3 D1 is a great return so far,  and of course every player is learning a different position every week . Had some good feedback from other coaches commenting on our style of play and players being comfortable on the ball, the best moment for me this season was not the visit to Orient or the 6 wins but was an opposition parent clapping as we comfortably played the ball around at the back from Cobi to Tobi , to Nathan W to Joe , a small gesture of about 5 seconds, that can only happen when  kids play without fear of losing the ball and conceding a goal, and parents & coaches  allowing this to continue without the shouts of " get rid of it & not in there " this is explained in Youth module one "creating the environment for children to learn  " just my opinion but a must course for coaches of players from 5 - 11

Futsal misconceptions !

There are many 11 a side coaches who do not like toe-pokes, flicks or controlling the ball with the bottom of the foot. Brazilian and Argentinian players have shown time and again that there is a place for all skills. An Argentinian Futsal coach ‘Facundo Ruscica’ described the complete player as one who has a tool box full of tools that he/she knows when and where to use them. Denying oneself the opportunity to develop these skills is to acknowledge that one will never be a complete player. The main reason for outdoor coaches resisting these techniques is that they themselves can’t do therefore do not understand them. -

The decision making and vision of a Futsal player will generally be better than an outdoor player due to the game being faster and players having less time and space to be effective. An outdoor environment allows Futsal players a lot of time and space to do things.

http://www.futsalfocus.net/news.html?newsId=302&type=Grassroots

In my opinion its very simple,  play  Futsal and the grass game you get the best of both worlds !!

A Need to Develop Players for the Future (here i go again )!!

The players and teams of the future will need to be capable of having technical excellence, that is from the goalkeeper throughout the whole team. Goalkeepers especially need to be excellent passers, they need to have world class control as well as being good with their hands. Are coaches doing enough to develop them as footballers?

The importance of the modern game is that players are capable in attack and defence and thus have the necessary technical and tactical skills to be effective. Are we developing our players to be capable of playing in the modern game?

Are our coaches willing to allow our players and teams to experiment and be creative, or, is it safer to keep fixed formations and achieve "results", instead of developing smart, intelligent players capable of playing in numerous positions and systems.

Now as youth coaches we need to understand that in order to get to this level players need to make mistakes, need to try to things and develop. Too many coaches however are unwilling to allow mistakes and thus kill the creativity of their players. They take away their imagination and create robots which results not in fluid footballers but in the English fixed style which has been the cause of our lack of success.

BLACK 1-1 ######

Another challenging game in this Avon league u/10 game .Again we carried on with our wing back formation which I had prompted the kids I might change as I didn't know a lot about the opposition. We had worked on for two hours on Saturday pressing, defending , screening forward passes, (the kids wouldn't know about the later but gave them a rough guide as to why we would want to anticipate passes in the final third) Our pressing and getting the nearest player behind the ball, was the main reason for the training on Saturday. You have to use a certain way to  explain to u/10,s and most importantly I believe you have to tell them why we do certain things in training and in a game . By closing an opponent down quickly you make it more difficult for them to pass or dribble, sometimes the mere fact you are in front of them is enough for you to   force  an error, Nathan B did it numerous times in the 2 nd half,, just my opinion but I believe some of the best defenders don't need to tackle, their  reading of the game is so great that that they snuff out the pass before a tackle is needed, I listened to a Ruud Gullet interview once  about this player https://youtu.be/sKp9W_gJ2r8 , he said he hardly ever see him make a tackle. Back to the game, I think it was a fair result not a great deal for either keeper to do , Cobi got us out of trouble with a tip over from close range, and their  keeper, kept out double j with a worldly with 10 to go , was a superb save . The main thing is we learnt from last week. Had an internal discussion on Sunday and I have decided to keep my two in  defence when possible until they understand their  role as a wing back. Will be great for there game, we all know they can score goals, I am totally against the £5 per goal parent or grandparent (or once had a mum in another team , said  to their  son he wasn't getting Sunday dinner  if he didn't score jeeeeeez, no wonder the kid never passed the ball !) !!! as most of you know, but their could be a negotiation for keeping a clean sheet :) .
Nearly at the half way stage and performances have been very good, we all want to win games I never go out to lose always to develop , to be still rotating at this level when all the other teams are in fixed positions should give us all a great sense of achievement and pride .Saying that I think its a must we stay in this league, with every week bringing in a fresh challenge,  and I think the physicality (fair physicality !) can only be a plus  .Away to trip to Belmont on Saturday for all Saturday trainers, Bretons on Sunday and Leyton Orient on Tuesday #COYBLACK

SLOW DOWN /SIT DOWN /SHUT DOWN

#### 5-1 BLACK

One to forget without doubt this morning, we definitely won the echo league Avon Division  team  , "hide n seek" championship by a country mile ! Yes they were a big side and yes i did think they were u/12,s on walking towards the pitch. Ive noticed we do have problems against big opponents from previous encounters .  We were never going to win a physical battle against them, but i do think if we had shut them down a lot earlier we could of made the score a bit more respectable. Really trying to search for positives, Coby probably kept the score down apart from that i could say we tried to play football at times but it really was a performance to forget. Towards the end when we did decide to shut them down we did have success but the game by that time was dead and buried . In the past we have always had a reaction the following game, the Parkview Rangers 5-1 win comes to mind after being whooped by Cheshunt on the Saturday , and would love it to be this Sunday ( just something personal !) So Saturday will be all about pressing, shutting down the opponent quick, trying to gain  possession  of the ball, quickly , failing that forcing an error. when you press it falsies your opponents head down & panics them into mistakes, Barcelona make a living from it !!!
So were put that performance in a box & move on swiftly won 4 lost 3 and playing well this season, i personally would of settled for that at the beginning of the  season . I may need reminding but im sure that was our heaviest league defeat ever, I really cant remember conceding that many league goals in a game for TFA OR BHFC so back to the drawing board as they say on Saturday and lets hope for a good response on Sunday  COYBLACK

Probably deserved something out of the game, even their manager said so when I was speaking to him at the end, but then our last 2 wins I don't think them teams deserved to be on the losing side either, so everything evens itself out in the end . We had our chances but didn't take them today, there's an old saying in football, don't worry about missing chances worry when you don't create any , and we created numerous chances  today Most pleasing yesterday we worked on overlapping and third man runs,  and we saw the team do that in abundance today, the passing and movement was again superb, and great to watch from start to finish, the goal itself came from a Nathan W overlap crossed in with his weaker foot and smashed in on the volley from Mitch, a clinical finish and a superb run from Nathan. I love to see things work taken  from the training ground  and we are recently seeing this every week. Another confidence building performance from double j , again going to work on his dribbling and The fig has comeback this year seeming to have been watching videos of the George Graham  Arsenal back 4 all summer!!!!. Asking me now to play in defence, and later on in the game telling me he was going to play the Faith role ! , to which I agreed whole heartedly . I wonder if not publishing the goal scorers  this year has any bearing on now having a team with 11 so willing defenders or just a coincidence , or maybe they have finally worked out that you get more of the ball lower down the pitch, and with us allowing defenders to attack and go forward its a win win situation for our wing backs and sweeper every game .The highest number of kids at training this week we had 18 on Saturday and its nice to have on lookers comment on the ability of the kids play, we don't get many not turn up ,so what they get out of it every week, must make them want to come back and long may that continue .Another hard game next week when we travel to the Hornchurch area again, double j and Will are both away so no rest weeks this Sunday, I like this division ,not an awful lot between the teams and we are tested every week, see you Saturday

GAME/TACTICAL/TECHNICAL/ " IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE BALL STICK IT IN THE BACK OF THE NET AND WERE DISCUSS THE OTHER OPTIONS AT HALF TIME !

THOUGHTS ARE  MY OWN NOT NECESSARILY  THE VIEW OF BHFC EmojiEmojiEmojiEmoji

Another bruising encounter from start to finish ,the first 10 mins or so I thought they looked very beatable, double J killing the left  midfielder on two or three occasions, if you watch Joseph carefully and I have lots of times his pass completion is one of the best in the team, like every player and coach small  improvements are always the way forward, in my view the minute you stand still or settle for what you have , you go backwards. I want double J to be more confident in taking players on and he did that yesterday, hopefully that will give him the confidence to take into the next game  , well done Joseph . The number 6 ( I think ) looked a good player but again over physical, another local team  also had a very physical player again a  number 6 !!!!! seems like there is a pattern building in the Avon division Emoji Best move of the game was definitely the pass from Joe Regan ,a  killer ball played into Will P , If you break it down technically  , the pass has to be seen first off, the correct surface of the foot has to be used to make the pass ,  the weight of the pass has to be correct, the ball has to be played in front of Will for him   to run on to Will  has to select which foot and again surface of the foot to strike the ball with & if you are only one footed your options diminish by 50 % ., I could go into Myelin and Neural pathways but that gets really ANAL !!! When you break it down like that for 9 years olds to be able to process all that information is astounding , and until I did the youth modules I  took all of this for granted . Back to the game and most pleasing was the last ten minutes, on Saturday we worked on game management, we played a predominately BHFC black team of 7 against an overloaded team of 9 , the score was 2-1 to Black and I called in the two teams and asked them to come up with a strategy in game terms. The scenario was 10 mins left in an FA cup  final
Black are leading 2-1 how are you going to set up ? go for the jugular and try to win 3-1 or settle back ,park the bus and keep the ball , same for the other team, do you throw the kitchen sink at them or settle for the loss Emoji The kids game so their choice, no prompting from me or Kev. We lost the game 3-2 !!!!!! but must of learnt as we dug in the last 10 mins yesterday and defended our league superbly , I just asked the nearest player to press the ball the others tuck in and shut down passing routes and space. Some lovely goals scored yesterday  Nathan with another shot that curled in and hit the upright then travelling across the six yard box. Well done Mitch, got battered throughout the game from start to finish but stood firm and never game up .How many teams do you see who can have good players sitting down on the touchline, how many teams all offer equal playing time, and how many teams have half the players go to one school , and how many teams can have a player playing sweeper one minute and centre forward the next ?? Ill let you ponder EmojiEmoji. So played 5 won 4 lost one and just promoted this year, not a bad start, if im honest im not seeing a massive difference in the quality of players in this league as opposed to the last division, what I am seeing is a massive difference in physicality in the games, one for another time but I would prefer to affect the game skills of players rather than strength and power, ive spoke about it numerous times and again something that comes up on the youth awards, if kids are starved of being taught , skills/game intelligence over power/ brute force , what happens to the powerful kid at 15 when he comes up against the skilful  kid at 15 who was a late developer physically , BOTH ARE NOW THE SAME SIZE ????? .Small moan we have lost 4 balls this season all ready , they are good footballs and are £9 each, obviously the club don't pay for any of the equipment we use, we are self funded by the money we raise from Monday night Futsal, so could you all have a quite word with kids to look after the balls, most go missing on match days, think ill put club captain Faith in charge of counting and looking after the balls on match days, ill speak to the team with Faith on Saturday  about the matter. We go again on Sunday, with the thought you are only as good as your last game . !!. Ill refer to the quote from BOB PAISLEY

At last some common sense

If the coach encourages players to slow down and relax on the ball, to take their time, to possess the ball, to support each other, to play together, to take opponents on, to take up positions at angles to each other, to circulate the ball quickly around the team, to play one and two touch football, to create triangles and diamonds in their play, to pass backwards when no forward option is rational, to use the goalkeeper to maintain possession, to read game situations and play away from pressure not into it, and to recognise and create numerical overloads, they are on the right track.

BHFC BLACK 2-1######## A game of 2 "alves "

A game of 2 "alves" as they say, we were massively  on the front foot in the first 25 mins of the game, playing some great stuff, setting up again with Joe Regan & Hayden Porter playing as wing backs and a welcoming return after injury from Faith Mensah .Faith slotted back into the old fashioned sweeper role playing just behind Joe and Hayden . I am a big fan of this system I think it gives us a lot of space and width & I think the kids are getting used to it , and with our players now seemingly being comfortable in any position we can change it at any time to suit the opposition. We took the lead with a lovely move playing out from the back Will Packer found himself in loads of space and played a superb pass into Nathan B who drilled the ball low and hard into the bottom corner of the net. The second came from the left foot of Hayden P putting us 2 up at the break .The 2nd half was a different story the opposition came out firing on all cylinders wave after wave of attacks and you can see why they have came from higher divisions, strong and quick up front Coby pretty much kept us in the game after numerous saves, the best coming from the right foot from there number 9 from 20 yards out which was heading straight into the top corner , and Germans reaction was lightning tipping over the bar. Numerous saves followed with  Cobi pushing  round both posts gavering high crosses really was a masterful display. Another great game for the Fig, mostly his job today was in the middle of the pitch where he battled away but seeing we were really under the cosh later on sat back in the heart of the defence without any prompting from me and Kev. 50 minutes where I thought we had the rub of the green especially in the 2nd half , but we will take it as we definitely didn't deserve to be on the losing side in  the first game of the season  .A  game full of positives with the kids giving they're all , just one negative, we allowed them too much time on the ball today especially in and around our box, so in training Saturday ill dig out some practices on shutting down early .
A bit tongue in cheek Saturday at training Kev brought the head protectors and boxing gloves !! the kids  really enjoyed it, we also did a bit on shielding the ball and using our strength (iron bars), Max said to me at the end , can you let my dad know next time we are going to do it and ill bring my own gloves !!!!
This Saturday we are being joined by  FA tutor Mick Jolly, his role is to go around chartered standard clubs and give feed back to grass roots coaches, not to criticise but to watch and if needed give me another slant on the session or maybe how I can tweak it to make it better. I am always up for feedback, this is Mikes fourth time with us, it also gives me hours towards my continuous professional development as a coach , but with 85 hours already this year and another 32 hours being added once ive completed youth module 3, I only need to do 6 hours a season to keep my coaching badges live !!!!!!! Ill  see if he wants to bring his gloves !!!

###### 2 BHFC BLACK 5

Well that became a bit LIVELY Emoji Again we started off with what looked like we had been up faces night club, till 4 am. the opposition  went ahead, with what looked there first attack of the game, and after the second goal , which I must say was nicely worked and smashed in by the number 6 with power and accuracy leaving the German no chance at all. I could say at half time me and Kev game them the hair dryer treatment (ill let the dads explain that) or threw tea cups about, but it was just a talk to change tactics, move a few players about, and to find our passing rhythm which had been gravely lacking in the first half. The 2nd half was always going to be an up hill battle ( excuse the pun ) Emoji . Personally I thought some of the tackles should of been nipped in the bud by the ref early on, but its a hard job, I said my piece and will leave the matter closed . Footballing wise in the 2nd half  I think we tore them apart with every player playing there part, Nathan , Tobi , Hayden going forward twisting and turning, going inside outside was a joy to watch. Joe Regan overlapping on the left hand side, Mitchel (who passed a late fitness test ) !!!!!!!!! held the middle of the pitch superbly, and once again we were held together by  the unselfish, unflappable rock of Nathan W, Will Packer linked up superbly with the rest of the team, you would of never of thought it was only his 2nd game for us . Coby I think was mostly un tested but his punch out in the second half nearly reached the half way line and his ability to kick from his penalty area  into the oppositions box is always going to cause teams trouble. Three years of rotating positions yesterday became very handy, Ricky , Toby , Nathan and Hayden if you noticed all played in defence, midfield, and centre forward and everyone of them looked comfortable. All said and done man of the match for me was Hayden , his work rate and game changing performance further up the pitch was superb, I think we was also unlucky not to get a hat rick. Well done to William P on his debut for BLACK last week 3 goals on your debut is a very nice way to start, think Will is going to enjoy playing at Buckhurst Hill. Bit of an  announcement, I always do what I think is right for the team and the club and Nathan W will captain the team on a permanent basis, his organisational skills, work rate, unselfish team play and not forgetting he is a really good player were the factors that have led me to this decision , running in parallel with this Faith will become Club captain again the same reasons as Nathan led to this decision  they will both be the link between me and Kev and the rest of the team and will have input on organisation/ training and match day tasks  . Well done Nathan & Faith  . Ill speak to Laura but hopefully Faith will be back next week, Tobi will be on international duty & we may have to rest one other if Faith returns. Futsal tonight , training on Saturday (something a bit different ) usual time and place .On Tuesday I signed up for the FA  youth module 3 and if passed is the highest grade in the youth coaching pathway for kids aged 5-11, baring one specifically for academy coaches .Thank you to everyone who attended the private coaching sessions I did over the summer, the money raised from these sessions helps to pay for these courses and of course the more knowledge I acquire can then be passed on to the players .  My partner in crime Dave  "gola  elite Durham" will also be on the course, im looking forward to seeing his new pink bootsEmojiEmojiEmojiEmoji   . First game of the season BHFC 1- ##### 2

Couldn't of asked for a better reaction after a few suspect displays of late. Me &  Kev  asked the boys to tighten up at the back especially with Faith being out injured. The wing back option that we started to play at the end of last season looked a good system for us ,with the amount of attacking players we have in the team, after 3 years of rotating positions  everyone including Coby is capable of playing in defence .I explained if a player on the flank or Nathan has space in the middle of the pitch exploit it and attack, the trade off is the other two must come in and cover the middle of the pitch , or failing that a midfield player drops in . I read a lot of coaches saying you cant teach kids tactics at u/10, I strongly disagree, its all about forming good habits and of course what the coaches philosophy is on the game. I recently watched an u/10 team play at the BHFC tournament where I watched two lets say large players playing at the back for a team, when they got the ball it was boooom up pitch.!!!
Maybe that is the coaches philosophy !!. Thank you coach for developing our next generation of players comfortable with the ball at there feet !! .Safe option for the coach, he may not lose many games !! but is that great for developing players ???.On that point one part of the game I watched Coby have the ball at his feet a little fake to off  balance the on coming player and it was nicely played out to Tobi .Coby may do that another time & the player nicks it and puts it in the back of the net :) , big deal , this is u/10 football not the champions league final, the other option is row z, im happy with the option Coby chose. Another nice little piece of magic was Tobi,s  Maradona in the middle of the pitch, great to see they are all comfortable with these little pieces of skill that they can execute without a coach or a parent shouting out "not in there" or "get rid of it "!!
Back to the game a commanding performance from  Nathan W at the back, playing an old fashioned sweeper role, as always selfless in his play, always for the team never for himself. Think Andrew Fig had loaded Ricky up with Weetabix , "the Fig chased every ball, same again next week "FIG"!!
Good news with the signing of William Packer, my pen was out within 60 seconds of watching him, hope he will enjoy playing with the MIGHTY BLACKS , hopefully he will be available for the weekend. So a loss but the game could of gone either way, we had our chances, but all in all, was pleased with the way we played again, rotation of positions.
We go again next week.

Ultimately, the best players and coaches are in an environment that fosters thinking. Tactics are thinking, and the game without thinking is no game at all. Do yourself and your players a favor, and begin to develop players who are technically competent and comfortable thinking for themselves.

I learnt very early on the value of unopposed practice- followed by interference eg. 7 vs 2  . Followed by a small side game as a session .
FA Youth module 2 /level 2 & the  Coerver youth diploma all enforced this,  as a perfect coaching session . Great piece below on tactics and giving players ownership of the session, my personal choice is conditioned games (the rules of the game dictate how they play) ie midfield rotation/ playing out from the back / wing play / switching play  .There are endless games out there and most are free online. Great blog below for the interested :)

Early specialisation ! Joe Hart talks to the Coaching Manual

England and Manchester City Goalkeeper Joe Hart talks about growing up as a goalkeeper, the training 'keepers enjoy and how outfield players treat their stopper teammates.

Introduction
England and Manchester City Goalkeeper Joe Hart recently sat down with The Coaching Manual to talk about growing up as a Goalkeeper, the training 'keepers enjoy and how outfield players treat their stopper teammates .specialisation and Goalkeeper Coaching

The Coaching Manual : "How much specialist goalkeeper training did you receive growing up?"

Joe Hart : "At my first Sunday league club I got a little bit. Luckily the guy who ran the team was a goalkeeper so he took that part quite seriously, but there's only so much specific goalkeeper training you can do.

"When I was involved at Shrewsbury Town I had [goalie training] once a week but other than that we just played football and played for the love of it rather than trying to be the best."

TCM : "So did you know early on that you wanted to specialise as a goalkeeper?"

JH : "No not at all, I played everywhere!!
"When you're a kid you just want to play football whether you're in goal or you're outfield. I just played for the love of it with no pressure, no nothing, and just tried to enjoy the game wherever I played."

TCM : "When did you specialise and really concentrate solely on playing in goal?"

JH : "I think it was around 14 [years old]. I was always playing but when I was 14 I got involved with my local club at Shrewsbury Town and I was in goal from then on. But even then I still played outfield until I was 16 for my school.

"You know what it's like, when you're young you play for ten different teams so you can mix it up!"
TCM : "Which practices do you particularly enjoy as a goalkeeper?"

JH : "I enjoy it all. As a pro we're lucky enough to have the best coaches and best players around so everything is a challenge day in and day out."
"Obviously goalkeeper training can be a bit repetitive and can get a bit boring but at the same time if you you're always trying to get better you've got to constantly be working on different things."

TCM : "So do goalkeepers have to have a different mindset to outfield players on the training field? Is your routine more structured than theirs?"
JH : "Haha yeah! There's no understanding, you know [outfield players] don't really understand what we do!"
"I think we know more or less what they're trying to do but there's no love for the goalies."
"We don't care though, we know what we're there to do and what our job is and we just have to get on with it. The differences are a big part of football and part of the fun of it."

TCM : "Do you hate any practice where strikers line up and bombard your goal with shots as much as all grassroots goalies do?"

JH : "Yes! When it's just totally unorganised and you're just getting peppered is the worst thing!"
"I can be a bit childish but I've just walked out of those ones in the past. The gloves come off! I'm not interested in that one little bit!"
The Coaching Manual spoke to Joe Hart at the opening of a clubhouse in Manchester that was part-funded by The Football Foundation. Visit here for more information about their vital investment in grassroots football facilities.

Great piece shared on twitter by Nick Levett talent identification manager at the Fa

Woven into that is the idea of trying to find your fundamental purpose in life: and why would you be a coach? It’s a big question for everyone involved in coaching, particularly when you consider that you will be under the gaze of so many people who want results day-in, day-out. One of the key fundamental purposes to coaching is about helping people and if you like helping people, it certainly helps you to be a far better coach than if your fundamental purpose is just about achieving incredible results. I think a coach who is very focused on results can have success but I’m not sure that they have longevity – they’re possibly the coaches who move from club to club.”

Great book for the anal amongst us :)

http://whitehouseaddress.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/the-way-forward-lesson-in-game.html?m=1

It is important however that the players are able to play in various positions and not be pigeon holed early, they must ‘learn the game’ from a variety of different positions in order to gain a deeper appreciation of the game as a whole as well as being offered different spatial problems and possibilities.

FRANK LAMPARD ON HARD WORK PAYING OFF & AN INTERVIEW WITH LEE WADDINGTON BURNLEY FC LEAD FOUNDATION COACH

http://www.uefa.com/trainingground/spotlight/video/videoid=1651191.html?autoplay=true#latest

Masterclass: Putting the child at the centre of your approach

Lee Waddington is a coach who values research.

The Burnley academy foundation phase lead coach – the man responsible for overseeing the development of the Premier League side’s 5-11 players – has used the findings of leading educationalists and psychologists to shape and underpin a philosophy that has been 15 years in the making.

At the heart of that philosophy is the child. And in this Masterclass Interview, Lee offers an insight into this approach and details some of the research he has used to anchor his work.

What are the defining characteristics of your approach?

The work our coaches do is defined by the way in which they care about the child and the person way before we even get on to talking about the child and the player.

We don’t have a one size fits all approach. Every child is an individual and we have worked extremely hard at working out what each individual child needs across the four corners and identifying what that individual need is first, what support they need to develop as a person and then as a player.

It is still a work in progress. We still haven’t finalised where we going and I don’t think we ever will. But where we are at today compared to two years ago is that we have a more personalised learning structure.

We have also created a nice environment. It’s a secure environment that I think children are really keen to come to.

And, ultimately, I think if you love what you do you will improve. If you have talent you can improve to a higher level, and sprinkled with a bit of luck I think we can produce players and elite people that will have the coping strategy to play in front of thousands.

>> View a copy of Burnley U8s' 12-week learning pathway

You have been in the role for two years now, can you give us an insight into how you went about implementing some of these ideas at Burnley?

When I first came in things were heavily influenced by the technical and physical.

So we have just put that in as a model to really try to help all the children become better learners, to manage their behaviour and introduce a Montessori way of teaching where children become more patient to take their turn to talk, to be patient in whatever exercise or practice we are doing and it leads to a less chaotic environment.

How have you seen a greater focus on the psychological and social corners benefit players’ development?

It has been a real eye opener for us that more psychological and social coaching may have benefits for the technical corner further down the road.

For example, what we found in a boy who needed help in say communication is because he has asked for the ball more, he has actually received the ball more and has manipulated it or dribbled it more.

So what we are seeing is because we worked on communication a lot with him that has improved.

He has also then become a better learner because of that, so we are in to the social element, but the real surprising element was in his technical corner.

As a by-product on working on the psychological corner, his first touch improved because his communication improved. He asked for the ball more, so he got it more which gave him more opportunity to practice.

How is all of this underpinned by research?

Two or three years ago I got in touch with Dr Angela Duckworth who created the Grit scale test and we discussed how it might be utilised in our environment. What that is helping us to do is underpin some of our decision-making or observations of players in terms of their grit and resilience.

I must note that we would never sign or release a boy based on this. It is just one of the things we look at, certainly in the psychological corner.

What other research do you use?

One of the key aspects of research we have used is from Dr Robert Bjork, who is an education expert, and one of his key areas we have worked on is called Interleaving.

This is a way of dissecting each session so that we are giving the players the opportunity to have a different start and different end to the practice.

What we tend to do is split an hour-and-a-half session into 15-minute time zones where they will play and practice for around 12-13 minutes and then have a two-minute break where will do some reflective learning as well as some forecasting on the next practice.

We stay very true to the game but it is a way of spacing different elements of the game - that can be anything from passing and receiving to 1v1s, 4v4 games, unconditioned and conditioned games. This allows the players experience lots of different beginning and endings.

And what we are finding is the enjoyment levels and participation level from the children is very high and the learning outcomes we are looking for are, so far, fantastic.

What have the results been like?

We are starting to see the results of the personal development on the field, not so much in terms of results in games because they are not important to us. It is the manner of how we play and how each player develops in the game structure following on from the coaching which is really important to us.

Where court met grass! & Saturdays Training game

Superb morning's football on Sunday where BHFC u/9 Black met the Pat /Fyn Futsal all-stars !!
consisting of 4 u/10,s 3 u/9,s and a lively u/8 !!
Black started  on the front foot with 2 early goals from Hayden P and Tobi ,B but the all-stars after 10 mins found a nice Rhythm and with Jordon E pulling the strings in the midfield a 25 minute domination followed . Black found it hard to compete with the midfield and getting caught  on the counter on numerous times, Jordon E netted twice and a superb strike from " WILL I AM" !   caught us " off balance and with Fynn completing the rout  we really looked in trouble . But Black fired back with another Hayden P maizey  run and Faith venturing forward more as the game went on girl power! found space inside the alstars box and levelled the game .A nervous last ten minutes followed and the game was now flowing from  end to end with both teams striking the woodwork ! (I think they are metal !) and with the clock running down the ball fell to the powerful right boot of Mitch P who thundered an un stoppable strike into the top right hand corner .It was a really superb game to watch and I think both teams came out with loads of credit , Black for playing against 4 u/10,s and the Allstars who had  never  played together before and a big up for Louie who didn't stop running for the 60 mins of football. Massive thanks to Dan and Pat for managing the team and for Jake for reefing the game, I am sure the kids and parents will want to play again during the summer.

SATURDAY TRAINING GAME

Great to see we had learnt from our Mauling from Belmont last month, I think we this time were unplayable as Belmont were last month and with Rudi,s team  going out and getting a draw against Harold Hill on Sunday proves that if you learn from defeat you haven't really lost .
The training development games against Belmont are going to be a permanent fixture throughout the yearly calendar 2 evenly matched teams and taking out the  win at all costs mentality can only be better for the players, the fact that no results of these games are ever logged or published means both coaches and  managers can play players anywhere on the pitch even their  goalkeepers and that can only benefit the kids. We have obviously  been doing this for 2 years and I hope that shows in our performances'

TRAINING GAME SATURDAY/NEW FUTSAL NIGHT/SUMMER FOOTBALL

Firstly well done to all for doing the fun run on Saturday morning and participating ,  all the money raised go's to club and nice to see every one attended apart from Mitch ( who I ran for ) who with his persisting  knee problem me Gary and Faith thought it best he rests for a while to let it settle down. Faith had a problem with her ankle a while ago and rest seemed to have sorted her problem out I hope .On that note please tell me if your son or daughter is suffering with on going injuries as sometimes playing through them will lead to problems later on in life . As we have now finished our league games and the pitches close down soon im trying to use the games we play to put the kids in  different  formations  and see what they come up with .We played a wing back system which allows our wide players to play in a channel with two narrow midfielders and one player playing up top .I've heard numerous coaches saying you shouldn't use tactics with kids of this age group, I completely disagree, why not, you wont know if they understand it unless you try it and I definitely think we have the players to play this way . They  would understand how to play wide because we play the wing game in training sometimes so that has sown a seed due to the   repetition, last week at training with  Nick the FA tutor we played offside which they wont have to do till u/11 but why not do it occasionally now to allow them to have  had  experienced it and the nearer they get to 11 the more we will play it. All comes  down to what they call guided discovery where the coach puts the system or small sided game in place and  the rules of the game dictate how they play rather than me telling them. All these ideas come  from the youth module courses I have attended a great introduction into the way kids think at that age .The game I thought we played some really nice possession based football some of the pass & move was outstanding, the result was  totally irrelevant I wanted to see how we played giving the formation I challenged them with  and the answer was there for all to see.   Archie got some game time and we nicked  Bailey again !!!!!  . I like to keep everyone updated as to what im doing with the kids in training and in matches and I use the blog to get that out there as we all live 100 mph life's so don't get time to explain during training or a matches.

Futsal

Ive been offered by a local school Tuesday nights to set up another Futsal night as with Mondays bursting at the seems and I would really like to aim this towards 7 & 8 year olds the  only times available are 6.30 to 7.30 which im not sure if that's too late, so if you know of anyone that would be interested in these times and Futsal let me know .The Mondays will stay the same with mixed age groups

Summer Football

Some will be glad to put there kids football boots away for the summer but I know mine will still want to play so  I am also looking if enough interest is  there to do something on a Saturday over the summer when the training at BHFC stops open to everyone.  I am looking  at a  two hour training session the structure will be  same as we do now but with 15 mins ball manipulation and 15 mins on using there weaker foot.

Futsal samba goals ordered yesterday and  should be here next week so better sort my garage out to make room !

Saturday 25/4/15 another training game with Belmont usual place ! Highwood Lane Loughton 10.15 meet for training, game kicks off at 11 am

BHFC 3-1 ######## LEAGUE CAMPAIGN COMES TO AN END

Another competitive Dorset division echo league match see us put to bed our demons in a   football sense  from two weeks ago and our session on defensive shape and recovery runs on Saturday  seemed to have hit home. Some lovely football played throughout the 5o minutes and at times our switching of play this season has been superb especially from Nathan who's range of passing gets better by the game. I think we are beginning to see the fruits of two years of hard work with this group being able to switch positions at the drop of a hat especially in the defensive third of the pitch. Mitch was asked to play on the right with Nathan W to his left Faith looks ultra comfortable in that sitting mid field role and allows our full backs to go forward if the space allows us .And Mitch, Nathan W and latterly Joe all did that The first goal was straight of the training ground !!!!!!!!!!! another Nathan corner curling into the keeper and the swing and power he generates causes even the most capable GK trouble .1-0 up and sailing but a little mix up at the back and PV equalised .They had a 10 minute spell of pressure and they had a couple of lively front players but girl powers !! speed and reading of the game never really caused us a great concern. Nathan put us 2-1 up but the goal of the game  definitely went to Joe Regan who had hit the bar with a header in the first half but this time from a Nathan corner powered into the bottom corner a great directional header and adds to our list of players who have scored with there head this year which is not something you see a lot at under 9 level .Hayden P got another un planned game and as we were short he  came back into the team due to a late injury !! .Double J had a fine game up top and worked really well with the other front two players as we rotated

THIRD EYE

Owain James has definitely been watching the dutch 70,s star  JOHNNY REP with  his  over head scissor kick the 2nd half , parental skills this season includes  Joe's ball control move and Claire's football free style tricks in an interview with sly sports after the game Owain said "Who,s Johnny Rep !!!"

MOMENT OF MAGIC

Cobys save at the end of the game , looked a clear goal but pushed onto the post and Joe cleared to safety

OPPOSITION VIEW

As Faith exited the pitch I heard the opposition coach say to his assistant " we have to take advantage now " that was at 1-1 !!!" Didn't he know these boys can play a bit as well !!!

So our league campaign comes to a close for our first BUCKHURST HILL FC season
hopefully a year they have all enjoyed as that's the most important part, our new signings Double J , Nathan W , and the u/14!! German have fitted in superbly with the other 7 and I hope they have enjoyed it. Not as importantly results have been very good our goals conceded has massively dropped especially at home without looking I think we are under one a game conceded  at home and every player has had at least two games in defence even Coby .

PLAYED 11 WON 6 DREW 3 LOST 2 AND UNBEATERN AT HOME

Things to work on over the summer , definitely weaker foot and I want to investigate if you can help a players speed development at 9 years old I know you cant with endurance as kids at that age haven't developed great  lung capacity but ill speak to some of the coaches at Orient and see what they do.
Futsal carry's on throughout the summer and we are bursting at the seems with about 23 who have been through the doors if I can find a venue I will be looking at doing one for the younger age groups but venues are hard to come by

Not been a great weekend ! #### 3-1 BHFC BLACK

Not our best weekend performance wise and definitely not result wise, but if we can learn from Saturday especially. No tracking back from our forward players and not tracking runners on Saturday and ball watching from our defenders and the amount the opposition scored against us didn't flatter them they were easily 5  goals better than us and ,  will be doing a recovery run session Saturday week and some defending drills concentrating on marking. The Sunday game doesn't really concern me that much I think we were out muscled by a bigger stronger team from a development point of view a tutor once told us on a course don't be sucked into the bigger kids always   being better players and to concentrate on technical ability especially when your coaching bigger players .Reason being  the big 9 year old may not be bigger at 14/15/16 and he may of got through his younger playing days by physicality rather than skill where as the smaller player can only survive at 9 by being technically good,  at 15 they may be the same size now the big nine year old who got through his younger days by being stronger has no advantage that's were the skill of the week comes into play keep practicing and Futsal by nature being a game that produces technical players  .Some of ours looked a bit over whelmed by the other teams presence which is understandable I was the same at that age .Two players who didn't have that problem was Coby and Faith who I think kept the score down for us there manager pulled me aside and said Faith was the best player he had seen in this league  one of many that have commented on Faiths ability this year .We was unlucky from a great free kick from Mitchel and went close a few times with the big ball!!
Played some nice football in parts  but I think the game was won by physicality but not tracking back didn't help our cause , just a game to put down to experience. No game this weekend and the last game of the season on the 12/4/15 vs Parkview but ill be trying to get us some friendlies in Futsal and 7 vs 7 . Futsal is on this Monday but not over the Easter weekend and no training on Saturday

KNVB COACH EDUCATION /TALENT IDENTIFICATION

The dutch way ! The last video is on talent ID someone once said to me its not always what you do with the ball its what you do without it as stats say you spend 90 % of game time without the ball . So in  my opinion you should train 90% with it which takes us  back to the 1vs 1 2 vs 2 4vs 4 games etc ..... in training

THE NATHANS SHOW /WING BACKS /INSIDE RIGHTS /SWEEPERS ...THINK THATS IT ...........

With Coby on a rest week Mitch P took the gloves and with my eye on up and coming fixtures I opted for The Blakes in defence with Faith sitting in front it didn't take long for us to go one ahead against a very depleted  team when Double J put us one up for his fourth goal of the season. As we have done since xmas I asked if we could keep it tight at the back for the first 15 mins to stop us going down to early goals . Joe Regan made it two after being set up  by Nathan W with a nice through ball and we was looking sharp and   I counted six attempts on goal in the first 15 mins . But they came back at us with a nice strike and then the game looked like it could swing either way. Just after half time Nathan who was looking more like a wing back than a defender had a nice interchange with the fig and we were sailing at 3-1 . They responded quickly but found themselves down to  only 6 players with 10 to go and we were very much in control of the game after that , Nathan B made it 4-1 and Tobi playing as the other wing back sealed the victory with a fifth although they did get another goal near to the end . As a winger myself many years ago !!! ALTHOUGH I STARTED AS AN INSIDE RIGHT !!!NOT MANY OF YOU GO BACK THAT FAR !! I have been watching over the last few years the emergence  of the wing back and something I wanted to make use of next year and definitely in the 9 vs 9 game at U/11 .Gareth Bale played it a lot at Spurs and closer to home Moses played there under Russell Slade at Orient and we have found another at the match room  named Dossena this season there main role is to defend but with pace can overlap creating an overload in the final third. With most of ours now being comfortable defending and were  definitely not short of goal scorers (we have 3 players with nearly 60 goals between them ) 3 naturally left footed players and a few who are comfortable using both feet definitely think we are well equipped to try this out. Back to the game got to credit to there manager Paul Howell with 4 players short I know a lot of managers who would of called the game off we were in a similar situation pre season when we had to borrow a few BHFC white players when we played Cheshunt Fc  im sure the game would of been a lot closer had they had there full team out .We had to change our system today by placing a player behind the defending two ( CALLED A SWEEPER IN MY DAY ) !! as they were trying to play balls over the top of our back two in to the space behind but Faith then Nathan W did a fantastic job of filling that gap without me having to explain to them so well done you two. Mitch looked comfortable in goal Hayden and Joe also created lots of opportunity's for overs to get on the ball and had there fair share of attempts on goal another goal for double j and The fig looked double lively up top .

OTHER NEWS !!
Great result for Belmont Blue who beat Loughton on Sunday but throwing this league upside down
its got to be the most competitive league in the echo with most games being won by a single goal which colours will be on the trophy come May 3rd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
